noisey drilled discs ?
i have just replaced the discs (front & rear) on the cayenne, and deceided to go for drilled and slotted ones (for purely asthetic reasons)
now while they look fantastic, they are very "loud" at speeds over 50mph whilst braking, i presume its wind noise over the drilled surface?
anyone had the same thoughts/experiance?

Not me - my drilled and slots are Completely quite. It wont be wind noise while braking. If it was wind noise you would hear it all the time above a certain speed. Since you said its when braking I would focus on that. What does it sound like? Is it a rhythmic chatter? A squeal?

ok, its only when i brake and only noticable above 50mph & faster, it sounds like a zeeeeeeeeee type of noise.
no loss of performance/braking, and the pads are new OEM Porsche.
the rotors are slotted and "dimpled" (not drilled all the way through)
these were bought from a respected porsche track specialist here, and they said the slotted drilled rotors always make a zeeeeee/whistle kind of noise?
obviously when braking there is friction/pressure on and over the slotted surface that would dissisipate the wind/air flow differently than if the rotors were smooth.
(same sort of thing as adding wind deflectors to the windows, to "divert" the air flow) it must be traveling over the discs differently than before
i know on my friends GT3 with his ceramic discs they make a rasping sound when applied.

Had to look up dimples: Designed for the performance enthusiast who wants the “look” of a cross-drilled brake rotor without the inherent cracking problems.
Learned something new. So the dimples are purely for looks. Wonder if they cause the weird noise?

OK - I am drilled and slotted so maybe dif for me. What i dont get is the wind thing. If they are going to make "wind noise" above 50 AND braking, it makes more sense that the noise would be there all the time. I did do a quick google and did find a few folks who had a similar complaint. If it really bugs you that much, see if your guy will take them back for slots and drilled. Check my brake post to see what I did - I have no noise at all:

i did not want drilled discs, as porsche themselves say because of the weight and size of the cayenne rotors if they are drilled they could crack under heavy/prolonged braking, thats why porsche did not offer them as an option on the turbo.
so i went for the look without loosing any strength.

I heard they did not offer drilled because it was an offroad vehicle and rocks and mud could build up in the holes. They do use quality drilled rotors in the rest of the Porsche line up so I doubt they have issues with it otherwise. I myself intend to upgrade to the Zimmerman cross drilled that you can get off e-bay for about $600 a set.

thats a good point, but i always though it was because of the weight (two and a half tons) that caused issues with cracking due to the immense heat that cayennes create, our discs are much larger (mass) than other porsches
to drill through would weaken the discs massivly.
still got my zeeeeeee noise though
