Swapped brake pads. Do I need disks too?
I swapped out my old front brake pads today on my CS. Quite an easy job, once you can get the retaining rod/pin out !!
On closer examination I saw that there was a slight lip on the edge of the brake disks, so I think I will buy myself a pair of disks on Monday morning and do those too.
I take it, the disks are shot when they develop a lip on the edge?
It looks an easy job to replace the disks. Is it just the 2 caliper bolts and the disk retaining torque screw?

You really need to measure the disks to see if they are still thick enough. When they get to thin the pistons may not be able to seal under high pressure. The lip that you refered to can also "twist" the brake pad potentially causing the piston to leak from uneven pressure. Here in Germany they do not turn rotors, they replace them. One of the reasons that we get to drive at unlimited autobahn speeds. If you want to play, you have to pay.

If you have the lips forming on the rotors I would change them. It is an easy job, I use zap straps to tie my caliper to the suspension so that it doesn't drop when I remove the caliper bolts. BTW Porsche recommends changing the caliper bolts when you remove them, as they are a single usage bolt that is designed to stretch when installing them. I have put a new and a old side by side and not seen any difference.

Took your advice and swapped both the pads and the discs/rotors and while I was at it changed the brake fluid too.
So a complete job done, without having to give a furtune to the stealers

Easy job to do, and nice bonus is the money savings.

Porsche really does build a car that you run hard and afford, Too bad tires are so expensive!

Nice work, I know what you mean about it looking nice. I replaced my brakes in June and the outer part of the rotor is starting to oxidize. I guess I should have painted them with high heat paint prior to installing them.
