04 Turbo interior electrical gremlins- New owner

I just bought my friends 04 Turbo. Maintenance has been kept up and she's in excellent shape with 81k mi. I was wondering if any one has ran across these annoying problem and had them fixed and what kind of damage to my checking account I should expect...

#1 The interior lights want to stay on and I have to hit the on/off button on the overhead panel when I leave the vehicle or the lights will stay on. I have played with the settings on the center light switch and nothing helps.

#2 The glass on the rear hatch has a little bit of play and the warning light in the display tells me it's open when it's actually closed.

#3 Park distance control in the rear stays on red after starting up and I get the long tone- which is a fault.

I know it's a lot of questions, but I don't live near a dealer. I have a few good Porsche guys here that have worked on my other cars and I would rather let them do it than go to the dealer. I will go to the dealer if necessary.

Eric

#1 & 2 maybe related, if there is a little bit of play on the rear glass, it is not shut right. These things are built very very tight. With the glass opened, press the remote couple times, it might be a sticky mechanism on the latch. Then slam it as hard as you can without breaking the glass of course. If that doesn't work, open one of the doors up front so less pressure in the cabin.

A few things I have seen#1: Sometimes the sliding light switch can get hot and melt the small areas around the contact switch. Not a big deal, the switch slider comes in a nice rebuild kit.#2: Sometimes the limit switch doesnt hit all the way, and is slightly out of adjustment. If you can, pop the panel back and slide a piece of heat shrink onto the actuating element of the switch. You might not think it adds much, but is typically just enough.#3: Sounds like it might be a bad sensor, or if the bumper has been off recently, might not have been plugged back in.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will be working at solving these little issues. The rear park assist sensor is reasonable. The most annoying thing is the rear glass that alarms every time I go over 3-5mph.

Mine has always been that way since I bought it, when I close it I continue to push down hard until my hand stops, feels like your going to break the glass but push very firmly on the black wiper base (like your pushing through the car). It works every time, everybody else who is not familar with this glass that shuts it for me thinks they shut it hard??? Naturally your hand stops when it hits the latch but keep pushing. Try It! my annoying problem is the remote door key is very poor, even on top of the vehicle I have to hold it few inches from the glass and point it at the center of the dash and if your on the passenger side and don't double click the speed just right its quicker to walk around open the door and hit the all unlock button on the door!

i just recently discovered that i can lift the glass independently of the hatch :P

are you guys able to close the glass like you would a hood, that is, at a certain height, you can drop it, letting gravity take it home. i found that to be the best way to close it completely, without pushing on it by hand.

#3 i also had. as porschespeeddemon noted, i had a tow hitch added (bumper removed) so when i called up the installer about the issue, he explained: oh it's no big deal, it's just the wiring harness isn't seated correctly/fully. just bring it back and we'll fix it in 30 minutes. this entailed removing the bumper to get to the harness, to securely seat the plug. does anyone know if this can be done without removing the bumper?

Yes it can be. You might have to remove a few screws in the left rear wheel liner to access, or possibly even reach in from underneath, but it is do-able.
