Cayenne & alternatives (for 3 car seats)

Hi folks - I need a 3rd car to be my KID-MOVER & WINTER/snow daily driver. (I'm trying to keep our 3rd car from becoming a Mini-van.) Our current 3rd car is a Volvo XC70 wagon, but it is difficult to get all 3 kids buckled in without scraping my knuckles. Plus, I have to criss-cross the buckles in 2 positions, which is a major PITA.

The requirements:
Must-have:
* AWD (snow drives, some hills)
* fits 3 car seats: 2 boosters (6yr olds) and 1 fwd facing(1yr old)
* NOT-OBSCENELY WIDE/LARGE. (The mirrors on a Honda Pilot will just scrape.)
Nice-to-haves:
* semi-luxury or luxury
* more fun to drive than a Toyota Hylander
* 3rd row
* rear seats fold
Any help is appreciated.

Also, if you have pics of the car seat configurations, that would be fantastic, too.

Audi Q7 or Lexus GX470 might be a good candidate

the Q7 4.2 is a great option which in your position, id choose.
ive never tried/seen it done before, but i had one britax in my truck and it took up enough space that only two would fit in the 2nd row, no way id think that three would fit there.

I am looking for the same thing. Have a 7 year old, 5-year old, and a 2.5 year old - so two boosters and a car seat. Currently the wife drives a 2007 Denali XL, but thing is too big and is a POS. Definitely looking at a Q7 as well as a GL.

Any other ideas would be appreciated...

Thanks.

I can't think of anything else.
That's the beauty of living in the US very limited foreign imported vehicles.

Just went through the same exercise myself...I'd add the new X5 to the list ('07+) but it would probably be too wide. Also, I drove an R-class MB that had a great interior layout - 4 captain chairs in the mid & back - but I decided I couldn't live with it, though my wife liked it.

Yeah - X5 should be on the list - 3 rows optional right?

I believe this is bigger than your Volvo, rare, and fun as heck I still don't see the reason for a SUV when a wagon can/does have more space. Except for the couple of hours before they plow the roads down...

X5 has a REAR easy back seat to navigate. The R350 & R500 (7 passenger) are great values (dirt cheap used), but a little tighter. You owe it yourself to at least take one for a ride.

Land Rover LR3. Or the new LR4. I have an LR3. Three individual seats in the middle row and I got 2 boosters in the middle seat and left seat. An adult sits on the right seat. Third row seats are adult sized and, yes, a 6-footer like me fits with knees down. It is large, but not Ford Expedition-large. Large enough to seat 7 adults comfortably but not too large to be a barge. All-wheel drive, 2nd & 3rd row seats can fold flat. One of the most useful vehicles for a family that I couldn't think of anything else to replace it with, except for the next-generation LR4 with a more powerful V8 engine.

E55 Wagon is the Schnizzle. Although I have to argue that it is far from functional well past when the roads get plowed, if you have any residual snow or ice. Just doesn't have that "go anywhere at anytime" ability that a mom with kids needs.

Interesting - always thought of it as too small, coming from the Denali XL. But we do want something smaller - just don't want to go TOO small. Will check it out for sure. Does it drive more like a truck or have they refined it some for on-road use? I know they are the ultimate for off-road, just haven't read up on on-road drivability. Will go and drive one....

What about a 550 R-class Mercedes (or even a 63 AMG series!?).

Rare car, plenty of luxury, and easily 400+ hp with a simple ECU flash.
