Question Anyone notice higher gas mileage with a K&N air filter?

Are there any other benefits over oem filters or negatives?

Hi Pepper
I am on the fence, but if I was doing it I would use BMC over K&N.

Benefits
May give you 2 or 3 HP over the stock paper filters.
May give you an extra 1 or 2 MPG over stock.
You will never have to buy another filter ever again.
May give the engine a more aggressive sound at W.O.T.

Disadvantages
May let more dirt into the engine, shortening its life.
May contaminate the Mass Airflow sensors over time.

Benefits
May give you 2 or 3 HP over the stock paper filters. - doubtful even if you won't notice a difference
May give you an extra 1 or 2 MPG over stock. - saw no gains with the bmc, only less gas mileage
You will never have to buy another filter ever again. - the only true benefit of a drop in
May give the engine a more aggressive sound at W.O.T. - no sound change whatsoever

Disadvantages
May let more dirt into the engine, shortening its life.
May contaminate the Mass Airflow sensors over time. - it's a filter, it will filter out the same as the oem filter
my experiences from my bmc drop ins 05 CTT

I have the K&N in my 993 for sound and like it so I tried the BMC in my cayenne.
I noticed no difference in sound or seat of the pants driving so I put the oem back in for warranty purposes.

Thats true pct, but I was thinking more about the possibility of oil contamination from the pre oiled filter.

This may or may not be a problem, but I thought it should be mentioned.

If it's pre-oiled, there is a very good (bad) possibility that it will foul your MAF. Also, if you will get better fuel mileage due to better breathability, that probably also means less complete filtration; i.e. more dirt gets through.

No thanks.

Just shake off the excess oil. Simple. But don't buy a K&N with hopes of better gas mileage.
