ezpass and thermal glass

couple of weeks into owning my new '06 tts with a quick question.

has anyone had trouble using their ezpass through the windshield? Any tips/tricks before I put the velcro stickers up? I have been holding the pass up in the little gap behind the mirror and i'm 0 for 4 tries of getting the pass to be read while driving. I do have the thermal glass options so wondering if that's coming into play.

I'm also considering the ezpass front license mount but that would mean installing the front license plate (which i'm trying to avoid until i get a ticket).

Thanks

Being Canadian, I am not too familiar with your Ezpass system.

Is the receiving antenna at the toll both mounted high above the approaching vehicles?

If so, the transponder may also work inside the rear spoiler, as the spoiler is specifically designed to conceal antennas without a significant signal loss.
The distance from the top of windshield to rear spoiler is only ~ 7 feet.
At 30 MPH it would only take ~ 1/6 sec before the transponder arrives at its proper position!

Try testing the location by attaching it somehow to the top of the spoiler.
Good luck!

I have thermal glass and I am in NY. Took me a little time to get this right. Above the rear view mirror, you should notice that some of the thermal film is left out. I place my ez-pass in the top area left side right above the rear view mirror. The ezpass can be right side up, but you have to place it right up there so the top is all the way at the top of the glass, and the right side of the ezpass is right up against the rear view mirror holder. Hope this helps.

I have a 06 tts too and i found out the hard way too...ran a few ezpass and keeping saying unpaid...then it came to me about the windshield. so what i do is i keep my ezpass in my armrest and whenever i use ezpass i just hold it up to the sunroof.
it works fine for me because i don't use ezpass everyday.
i did notice the part above the mirror but i put a extra tint strip on my windshield so it would not work anyways.
i might consider doing the rear spoiler idea and just leaving it there.
keep you updated.

I had success yesterday holding the ezpass up tight to the top of the windshield and next to the rearview mirror. The midtown tunnel tollbooth read was slower than on my last car & for a moment thought it wasnot going to work. Meanwhile I do have a new tag coming and hopeful that it will be a little better.

I'd be curious to hear about anyone's experience with the rear spoiler cause that sounds so cool!!! Thanks guys

That is the only spot on the inside that it will work. I made sure e-zpass gave me a new one too, so the battery in there is strong. So far no problems, it has always worked.

i don't have a front plate mounted and was curious if the EZ Pass cameras checked front as well as backs. Do those of you without front plates in NY have any issues?

Going in and out of NYC there is no checking on the rear. I'm still not bulletproof and when i come and go through the city i do the sunroof. I have tried to have as much of the tag in the thermal cut out on the windshield but just doesn't seem to work for me. I also called ezpass to try and get a license plate mount but they wouldn't give it to me since my car is not approved for one ... wouldn't even let me pay extra for it. PIA

Def get a new sleazy pass and put it directly behind the rearview mirror. I had the same problem with an older pass and the replacement works 100% of the time.

Just told by my dealer that Porsche took off Thermal Insulating glass off the order sheet because of problems with transponders etc. Had it on my order for '11 CTT, but guess not anymore.

So you're saying for all of us that haven't built yet but have this as an ordered option, it won't be built with it?????????????

My order just placed - no allocation set yet, so likely if order already confirmed you are fine. The current order guide does NOT list the glass option. Its on the website (at least a week ago) but not on the official guide. I found the option code off this site and added it to my builld but it came back saying no longer option.

puzzling. my sales associate says its an available option on my turbo and my build hasnt started and even when you go online it shows up as an option you can pick.
He said there was no bulletin stating it was not an option anymore.
I sure hope he's right and you are wrong. i want this option. what do i care if ezpass works. Just means they have to manually cross reference my plate to see I have a tag.
They need to work anyways...
