Seatbelt Warning Ding - SOLUTION!!

Like many others here, I was fed up with the constant noise my Cayenne was making while driving in parking lots and short distances... so, I did what I do best - found a solution!

I've read several threads asking about this - most of them get into some kind of moral debate and none of them ever produce an actual answer. I am.

How to:
  • Look under your driver's seat. (You may need to adjust the front of your seat all the way up (towards the sky))
  • You will see a yellow connector, like this: http://i46.tinypic.com/25s7hab.jpg
  • To disconnect, press the tab in the middle of the connector, and pull. (towards the front of the vehicle)
  • Press the leads of a 100ohm resistor into the female contact points of the connector.

Leave the 2 pieces of the connector disconnected.

Your vehicle will now think that your seatbelt is connected at all times. It will not interfere with any other systems (such as airbag)

If you don't have access to a 100ohm resistor, I have plenty.
I can mail you one for $5, including shipping.
Simply send $5 paypal to euclid AT mail.utexas.edu (replace the AT with an @ and remove the spaces)
I'll even cut and bend the resistor for you, so you can just plug and play.

+1, I agree just moving the car out of the driveway for a minute, you shouldn't need your seatbelt.

Mine doesn't start dinging until I'm about a half a block out of my driveway and have hit about 25 mph.

I guess they finally addressed the complaint. Anything over 1mph sets off the dinger in my '06.

I would not be so sure about the Airbags some cars airbags respond in different ways if the passengers wearing belts or not.... because in some cases people who were not wearing belts received most of there injurys from the Airbags themselfs...

Right. My intention with this "mod" is to disable the pestering alert while at slow speeds, in parking lots, driveways, etc. Airbags will not deploy at those speeds.

I do not suggest or condone driving without a seatbelt on at any speeds above 5mph. Airbags most likely will behave differently in the case of an accident at speeds above 10mph.

The mod does not work, I just tried it, and it does shut off my seatbelt light, but it triggers the airbag light, now I have to go to the dealer to have it turned off. Thanks for the great advice.

What year is your car? Are you sure that you used a 100ohm resistor? Are you sure that you put it in the female contact points of the male side of the connector? Are you sure that you bridged the 2 contact points that actually have wires going to them? Did you try turn the key while the connector was unplugged, before the resistor was installed?

The reason that I ask is because your airbag light only comes on if the key is turned while the connector is unplugged and the computer does not read 100ohms, which translates to "seatbelt connected".

I've been using this on my vehicle for weeks. I've also done it to two friends vehicles locally, with no problems to report. Coming out and saying it just plain "doesnt work" seems a bit silly.
