20k Mile Service = $145

I just took my '09 CS in to my mechanic for it's 20k mile service ($145)! Not bad for 9.5 quarts of Mobil-1, OEM filter, and new OEM crush washer. I called two dealers. One said $450 and the other quoted $350. I asked what else they do besides the oil and filter change and they said "we just inspect a few things".

I understand the dealership needs to make a profit and that a lot of that comes from the service dept., but $450 for an oil change?

Agreed. However, since I needed my Blizzaks swapped out for my summer conti's and an inspect. I decided to have it all done at once.

You know... the DIY part is not the issue, it is finding a place to get rid of the old oil afterwards! LOL

You mean the sewer drain is not okay? Just kidding.

Our local ordinances are pretty strict. Fortunately, we have a recycling center receives and disposes oil for the entire county. Makes DIY pretty easy.

In fact, I do the oil for my Cayenne and 911 at the same time, bulk the oil together in a oil bin and dump it all at once. 2 vehicles, total savings of about $250-350. More importantly, the satisfaction of knowing it was done correctly...priceless.

DIY: How to change my own oil?

My dealer put 5-30w Mobile One in my SUV last oil change in November and the manual calls for different weight(s) than that.

My gas mileage has been terrible. I think the CT needs a lighter weight viscosity for winter driving.

In order to get the lubricants just the way I want them, I find I must DIY.

I want to change my own oil on my CT. Mine has the Advanced Off Road Package (extra plates). What should I expect?

Can I jack mine off the garage floor or must it be on a lift?

Can I set the ride height for Special Terrain to assist getting under her and getting access?

I have a common floor jack and a pair of stands. While I am not sure it extends high enough, where should I place the jack? At which body/frame points for safety?

I've read two drain plugs. How many are there? How many drain washers do I need to have handy? 1 or 2?

What about the oil filter wrench? Do I need a special Porsche oil fiter wrench?

Is this a "cartridge" type oil filter? What is involved in changing it? What is the best procedure to avoid making a mess and/or absolute dissaster???

Are there any other parts or tools that I need?

Finally, is there anything in the electronics that is done, perhaps to some sort of notifying alert?

Thanks in Advance,
