Upgrading To Factory Xenon Possible?
I have posted this before but still gotten a firm answer
I recenty bought bought a 2010 Cayenne GTS that does not have xenon lights
I have used kits before but On this car I want the only factory Units I have 2 Problems I have talked to 3 different dealers and keep getting different answers as to what the xenon headlight assm. comes with first they tell me the lights come complete with the control unit bulbs and ballast (I own a body shop and according to my estimating software the lights come complete) then its xenon bulbs only one say no bulbs etc... another dealer told me you cant even install them because of a harness issue???
Im figuring someone must have done this on a 957 ?

Ok, everyone I have heard install the conversion kits states that the lower voltage that hits the light when you initially start the car causes the bulbs to burn out continually and they are too expensive to replace......also you have to be very careful wtih the bulbs and cannot directly touch them, I am sure you know this.......but everyone said its a hassle for a daily driver. I would imagine if this is a garage queen you could maintain it with the kit.
If you can figure out how to convert factory halogen untis to xenon, let me know....

You are correct that the ballasts are all contained in the housing of the light itself. However, I cannot tell you what type of issues you might run into with the harness.
I'm sure it can be done. But remember Porsche won't run needed wires if that option isn't ordered.
I'm a bit surprised that they would even make a GTS without xenons.

seems like all cars and some motorcycles come with a wire harness designed and built for a particular model and that particular model's options.
so if you have a gts without xenon's from the factory, the wire harness doesn't have the extra wires/power and such for xenon's.
you could skip the harness and fish new power to the headlights.
or you could try the aftermarket stuff people use to add hid lights to older cars using ballasts and existing power source.
I agree with the don't do it opinion. if you do attempt it you might end up with endless electrical gremlins that shut down or confuse the engine management and on board computer. what a nightmare that would be.
