Anyone find a great aftermarket battery for Cayenne S
#3
I would LOVE the Optima battery, but there does not seem to be a match...
I need a battery, I don't want to pay $300.00 at my local dealer. Suncoast has it for $170.00 which is fine but they will not ship. I tried AutoZone and the replacement battery they have is not enouph CCA of 760, we need at least 850, 900CCA would be GREAT, I'm getting worn out looking.
If you don't have the correct CCA, my car needs the key turned back and forth every 6th or 10th start and it's anoying. I know this cause I tried the autzone 760 cca and does the same thing my 7 year old battery does. All electrical checks out fine, just need a battery not from the stealership.

The only thing wrong with the Optima is the physical size of the battery.
Since the battery fits under the driver's seat, there are limitations.
I personally have not opened it up, but I plan to one of these days, to see if there is ANY way I can squeeze an optima in there. I had the Red top in my 996 and liked it a lot (that took some customizing as well, but the work space was bigger.
If anyone has pics of the OEM battery in the compartment, or even better would be exact measurements, I would love to see them.
Currently I'm moving, so I don't think I'll get to this project anytime soon.

I bought my replacement through my local BatteriesPlus. It is a Werker brand which in just checking their website, doesn't look like they carry anymore. The new one that fits is a Rayovac SLI93T8 800CCA model. Not what you were looking for exactly but it might work?

Here is the spec of the Touareg battery size, according to the aftermarket replacement battery for Touareg;
9 in. x 5.43 in. x 9.13 in (This could be wrong size, keep on reading below, you will get more accurate #s)
I wonder if Cayenne battery is the same size as above.

Can you clarify which is height, width, etc.?
A quick look at the Red Top shows that it's not even close.
The real question is how much space is down there, and what's in the way? Can it be modified?

Take a look these sites, bunch of picture;

Hmmmm,,, after looking at the actual battery pictures, it doesn't look like the dimension I provided above doesn't look correct.
Here is what the real VW Touareg owner says; 7" wide x 7.5" tall x 15.5" long

Ok, if those numbers are correct, this is looking somewhat promising. The pics show some wiggle room in the width, so that's good there. There's plenty of length, so no probs there. The only issue is the height.
Only the Red Top 78 will meet the height requirement, but the terminals are on the side.
It's possible the OEM cables might fit, but most likely they will need to be modified (Porsche generally doesn't leave any slack).

Yes, walmart may be the smart choice.
To the OP, your best bet is to get the $200 toureg battery and install it yourself.
I may follow this project through to completion, but in the end I will spend a lot of time, and probably more money to put the optima in (after mods). It will still need to be vented per the above post. The only advantage will be saving a few pounds, and it's truly maint free.
