A Horny Question
Got your attention, eh?
A jackass in an E class MB cut me off the other day and I decided to give him a taste of my horn. Well, the resulting sound was actually quite embarrassing. The high pitch horn sounded off just fine but the low tone horn made some kind of dying sound. I actually had the low tone horn replaced 2 years ago under warranty. I'm out of warranty now.
I went to the Porsche dealership and they said a horn would be $200. I asked the guy how long horns were supposed to last since I've honestly never thought of horns as being an item that fails often. I mean, I've had plenty of cars with thousands and thousands of miles on them and I've never had to fix a horn before. To my surprise, he said they fail pretty often since they're right up front and can get water in them.
So, given that answer I guess 2 years for a Porsche horn is pretty typical. Funny how I don't see you guys posting much about this issue. I know it's just $200 but, to me, it just one of those really irritating things that I think Porsche should cover. I mean, I just had the dang horn replaced 2 years ago and I'm sick of giving Porsche so much of my money to repair crappy designed parts (I shelled out $2000 last fall b/c my Tyco-toy-company-sourced plastic manifold pipes burst outside of warranty).
Is there any place to buy this horn and do it myself?

LOL Bum! You are tooo funny! The embarrassing high pitch horn thing cracked me up! That's the last thing you want when you're trying to sound like you mean business. Especially in that bad boy ride you are in! I would have got a chuckle out of hearing your horn. hehe!
Suncoast is a great place to buy from if you're looking for any parts in the future!

It really was funny to hear. I might go aftermarket on the horn b/c I now feel the need to overcompensate.
