Porsche Cayenne Turbo is the fastest SUV around the Nürburgring Nordschleife

Just recently we reported that Panamera Turbo managed to lap the ‘Ring in just 7:56 making it the fastest sedan on the extreme Nürburgring.
Now Cayenne Turbo owners have something to brag about as there is a new record time in the SUV class.
Patrick Simon (Porsche Supercup racer) piloted this 500 horsepower 2.3 ton SUV with new Dunlop SP Quattromaxx tires around the Nürburgring in 8 minutes and 33.99 seconds.
The event was organized by Dunlop and surely great marketing for the tire company.
What we don’t understand is why they used the 500 horsepower Cayenne Turbo for the event and not the 550 horsepower Cayenne Turbo S.
With new Nürburgring record claims coming almost every week we can’t wait to see a standardized class system to add more relevance to all these records.

My CayenneS (medium options) weight exactly 2.5 ton(1 driver and half gas), so Turbo must weight more

 

I saw that too.

Wonder if there was some sort of "official" timing differences?

Curious why they did not use a "Turbo S" too. Seems like that would have dropped the time enough to make sure to trump the X6M.

 

Actualy x6m is new model, Cayenne is old...hopefully new Turbo makes this "mistake" correct and beat 8 minutes

 

Not really. At the time of the test it was "current" model against "current" model.

Sure the new Cayenne may best the "older" X6M but then it is a current model race again.

 

are the Dunlop SP Quattro maxx tires porsche approved tires for our cars? are they the same as their Dunlop SP Sport Maxx?

Does any one have any reviews of these tires? If so, where to get the best price?
