I highly doubt this. I don't think the marketing department alone would ever allow this to happen. The 911 is their trademark car, and I think Porsche will keep it this way for racing.

Did Porsche ever create race versions of the 968 CS?

Nice car, shame about the name...
Hey hey now, was it really necessary to drag teh Cayenne into the discussion ("gayenne")??

Porsche isn't always real bright when it comes to this. Their decision to roll out the V6 SUV added zero incrimental sales but rather cannabalized the CS sales. It resulted in an almost exact 50/50 split of CS sales. It would seem there are a lot of "badge" buyers out there.

The marketing dept allowed a sports car company to build an SUV. That sounds more far-fetched than allowing a new, nimble, mid-engined platform to reach its true sales/performance potential.

It should be interesting to see where the Boxster/Cayman are in 10-15 years. Will they be relegated to the 924/944/928/etc ranks, or will they become the new long-term bedrock of Porsche sales?

Race versions were the 968 TRSThere were only 4 ever built,1 in 92 3 in 93. There were also 14 Turbo S version built (The street version). 1923 Club sports were built between 1992-1995 they were built for the street, although people usually purchased them for their track car. I think the Cayman has a lot of the same characteristics in common with the 968.
