Comparing BMW X5 or Cayenne
#48
JenK, I was thinking about about what happened to you the other day. Now I know....Ugghh !! X5.... just kidding. Congrats. Ya bimmerforum will be your regular home but please make this your vacation home. You got to check back in Jan for the introductory post of my wife's Cayenne.
Jokes apart. Enjoy your new ride safely in good health and you will have to post some pics and driving impressions when you get a chance. Was it tough to part with your 997 ?

sorry guys!
tried to convince myself that I loved the new Cayenne, but couldn't. Not 40k!!! New 2011 X5 35d for me loaded. Picking up at the PCD on 12/22. w00t tried and tried, but lost out this time. When my lease is up, I'll be looking at the new X5 and Cayenne again! maybe Porsche will drop the hybrid and go diesel!!! I'll check in on all of you from time to time.
Jen
PS I did trade the 997 so I'll change my avatar as soon as I get the X.

PS come over to bimmerfest or xoutpost for more info about the 35D.
Disclaimer: i love my Porsche's, but this diesel really impressed me!

I most certainly will! I loaded it up with every option except the 3rd row, lane departure, HUD and rear ent. MSRP was 74k, 63k with discount, eco credit, holiday credit. A comparably equipped CS: 93k. A 30k difference. I think the BMW diesel engine will be awesome! Rated at 26MPG, I will only need to fill up every 2 weeks!

The options do add up rather quickly, especially if you get too optimistic. 30k is a few years road trips, some b & b's and a steak dinner here and there; they add up. The Porsche/BMW/Audi were all options Audi being the least expensive in my case, but Porsche pulling at the heart strings for me. You did your yoyo thing and came out top, as it appears that you have family or a group in mind.
Look forward to a review and some comparisons here soon. Also, on the professional front, it's about time for the rags to get the reloaded marques comparos going. Look forward to so new literature and video's...moreso from independants, than paid pipers.
Enjoy!

The only issue I have is spending ... base on that is 172 plus options? ... is spending well over 150K on a new car thats gonna depreciate so much. In the case of my 430, I bought it used for about 150 and its value has stabilized.
BTW, I bought a brand new turbo cab off the lot in april 09 but at a 26K discount and 0.9% financing but I doubt that would be the case for a turbo S cab.

Oh Boy Jen...the turboS was a curve ball...Can't wait to see you back with a Porsche. You do have to visit the Cayenne or 997 section to show off the pictures of that turbo since I rarely isfever visit the turbo section.

well, I am hoping to find one that was pre-loved with very low miles, especially with the 991 coming out. There will be deals, especially when the new turbo comes out and probably some leftovers as well.

xoutpost seems mature; I'm just a looker not subscriber for now, thanks! Since my 535i way back when, I've been inches away from owning both MB or BMW. This will be my first Porsche! ^^^That's a good deal! I'm a big fan of their HUD wish that the Cayenne had that and for that matter brought that diesel over here as well; I'd pick up two first in one fell swoop then! Rear entertainment will be great for the kids or some RnR with the wife...hmm...nothing to see moving on

Congrats on your first Porsche! I owned an 04 cayenne s and loved it, but can't get beyond the look of the back of it. Anyway, I am very content with my purchase and can't wait to get it!
I like bimmerfest better than xoutpost. There is also bimmerpost. I'll post up some impressions in about a month after I do a few long trips in it and drive daily. I am looking forward to 26MPG from this truck!

Faced a similar choice but with a 5 series sedan 6spd and a Cayenne 6sp (it's for the wife and she won't take an automatic). I agree PASM is neat but for a 7 mile commute it won't be missed. What is a great buy is the full leather package for $3500. It includes many leather components which together would be +$6000. Pretty much it means that if it looks like leather it is leather. I delivers a refinement and smell than is rarely found on BMW's. Also we ordered our Cayenne early September and expect delivery early January. No problem in getting exactly what we wanted.

I too was in your same position- I did my reasearch and that led to- BMW spends mucho time in the shop. Build quality is sub par for what you would expect. Go spend some time at xoutpost and you will see what I mean. X5 is not made in germany, cayenne is. Porsche is one of the most well-engineered vehicles I have ever owned!
A brief brain fart actually made me consider an X5 over a pepper as my second car
Took a deep breath, smelled tha coffee...and am getting a 2011 Turbo with tourist delivery
