Today when I was going down 121, I needed to gas up and so I did half way home. I went on my way, and I reset my trip computer and was able to get up to 26 mpgs out of it, and I got up to about 584 mile range; the reason I did not see 600 or more was because I already drove 15 minutes before I realized to reset it (usually do it after filling up, just forgot). I was able to keep it between 25.3-26 (was able to hold it at 25.9-26 once it got there) while in the 55 zone, but once I got into the lower mph zones it went down to 23 and back down to 20 eventually. I was able to average 20.4 back up, but that was about it. By the way cordsig79, if you have seen 600 miles on your Cayenne and I have almost seen 600 miles on my Cayenne, then I would think they would only brag about the diesel getting about 700 or more maybe? If it comes standard with the 26.4 gallon tank, then it should be able to achieve a good bit beyond 600 (saw at least 1 article saying the 2010 cayenne diesel got over 620 mile range with 25.3 mpg average with a 26.4 gallon tank, and the 2011 diesel should be more fuel efficient than the 2010 I would think) in my opinion; if they had the 22.4 gallon tank, I could see why they would possibly brag about 600 miles.

 

Trying to get good mpg is one thing. "Real world" mpg is another.

I can get my CTT into the 50mpg range coming down from skiing, coasting, drafting etc. But that is not the real day to day use of the car where I get 17.

The mileage claims be the manufacturers are more of an average of what the average user might get.

Ive been trying to say that too.........cruising at 50-55 mph w no stopping, techinically we can all get 25mpg plus..........

I mean BMW 5 series beat a Prius in distance and 55 mph speed for fuel efficency.....its more aerodynamic.....

Crank the AC, roll down the windows, and push it down 75% of the way from every startup........youll get 12-15 mpg for every model Cayenne sells, except the golf cart hybrid one .

 

I have the v8 turbo, but Cordsig and Cole are right. I always just thought the epa ratings were the maximum the car could get, not the average. Now I know though, and I am surprised I just never looked that up or realized it. On a unrelated note, I finally know how to quote on forums correctly now .

 

Can others with '11s share their mpg and please include your motor. I do tons of highway driving and found a v6 and v8 with all the options I want only difference is exterior color and engine (and of course $11K price difference )

For a 2011 V6 6M things look promising but I only have estimates (wife has filled the car up every time and sees no reason to calculate mileage). We live "inside the loop" which means exclusively stop and go. Under those conditions it appears to get something like 18mpg. Mixed driving looks like 22mpg and strictly highway at 75mph yields 28mpg. I expect that Sierra Club members driving 65mph will see 32mpg. This is on a car that just turned 1000 miles. Going on its first road trip this weekend and hopefully we will put enough miles on it to require a fill up whereby I'll get some better numbers.

 

Thank you for the info- I am actually from Katy... I travel for my job which currently has me in CT until the end of March then hopefully headed to FL for 3 mths (I move every 3 months which is why I am asking about the mpg).
