2012 Cayenne MT - "clunking" sound when shifting gears; and shutting off engine
Hello all,
I picked up my new 2012 Cayenne MT (I don't like driving anything other than stick shifts from the dealer 3 weeks ago. I immediately noticed a metallic "clunking" sound coming from the front underside of the car whenever I shifted from 1st to 2nd, and even 2nd to 3rd. This same metallic clunking sound could be heard when the engine was switched off. This sound is quite pronounced.
I took it to the dealer who, during the test drive, acknowledged the sound was not normal. After keeping my brand new car for 3 days they called me to relay that Porsche says this is "normal"... which obviously I found ridiculous and told them so.
They have requested me to drive the car for another couple of hundred miles to see if the situation improves. I complied, on the condition that if I had to bring in the car with the same problem again I would not accept it back until the problem was completely fixed.
Please post your comments/suggestions - they would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I test drove a MT when I was comparing with the AT. The test car was a 2011 Cayenne turbo with 1800 (approx.) miles on it. Very smooth, don't remember any cluncking sound even with the music off and window rolled down.
I'm suprised PCNA said it is normal....

kw911TT, thanks for the reply.
Just to clarify, when I said "MT" I meant the manual transmission "with the clutch", not the Tiptronic 'automated manual'.
I too was taken aback by Porsche's response, particularly since the Service Lead at the dealership himself told me the sound was not normal. I think they got a bit worried when they checked the car and could not figure out what was causing the problem.
Let's see what they say a couple of hundred miles later.

I've got a 2011 manual cayenne and don't have any clunking noise coming from under the car. The only noise I get is from a notchy sound coming from right at the shifter, a nice mechanical sound as you shift into gear. this noise happens with the car on or off.
how many miles do you have on yours? I noticed a marked improvement in shifting at 2000 miles. smoother quieter shifts with less notchiness.

I'm pretty sure Porsche has never made a Cayenne Turbo with a manual transmission.
