PCM2.1 not flush with dash

Hi All,

Anyone of you have problem with the PCM unit not flush with your dash?

I installed a dension 500 unit behind the unit and I moved all cables out of the way but for some reason, the PCM unit is sticking out about 1/4".

Anyone have this issue? Any solution?

Thanks,

Most installs I've seen photos of have the Gateway-500 mounted under the glove box.. that's where I intend to mount mine (should be here tomorrow..) The panel under the box comes out with one torx screw..

Did mine today.. there is very little room for the GW500. It was really frustrating trying to find a place for it. Finally found a small niche above the transmission tunnel next to the firewall. It can JUST be stuffed in there, and all the cables reach.

Question - what did you use for switched power for your GW? The power going to the radio is on all the time. I grabbed an empty switched fuse on the right side fusebox, but that has a downside. If you try to use the PCM with the key out - it's not going to work since there is no power to that fuse, and the GW500 then faults out the MOST loop (it needs power to pass the signal through.)

Took about 8-9 hours so far.. and I haven't run the long cable from the CD changer in the back yet. That's tomorrow if I can move (doubtful after being cramped up in the footwell of the passengers seat most of the day.)

the dension uses 12v constant power, you don't need to connect it to the ignition 12v.

It automatic shuts off when I turn of the car.

BTW, did you remove the A/C control panel? I am having trouble fitting everything and the unit won't fit now.

Good to know.. I guess the blue LED goes out?

No, I ended up mounting it behind the console, above the center hump for the transmission. This means fishing the fibers from the radio section down to the glovebox section.

Big hint - just take the glovebox out, it's not worth working around. There are 3 screws behind the trim on top, then two screws for the rubber bumpers, and two screws underneath. If you remove these - then slide it out a bit and disconnect the idiot hose going to the glovebox cooler (an answer to a question no one asked..) And the power to the interior light. You can then lower it down to the floor, and have somewhat better access to that area.

The plastic duct under the HVAC housing pulls right off - and you can just about see the little niche I put it in, above the tranny tunnel, behind the console.

I saw someone say they did it in 3 hours.. HA! I'm at about 12 now, and haven't run the fiber to the CD changer yet. I'm oldish, and I know I'm gonna be very sore tomorrow.

Thanks for the hint on the power. Will have to give that a try!

BTW - might be worth looking under the dash on the drivers side. Mebbe there is actually some room there since the HVAC isn't on that side.

Thanks again for the hint on constant power. Switched to a blank position that has constant power on the fusebox, and voila! It's working as it should.

Now I just have to figure out the USB/Flash-stick indexing, and how it works and how to use it. The manual isn't exactly clear. There is an option if you dig deep enough to "rebuild database" - which I assume means it will reindex the flash drive... so far it's only found 7 of about 35 folders on the drive, and it's not at all clear how to switch from folder to folder.

Thanks again for the 'duh hint.. I needed that smack across the head to wake up to what was happening.

Are you able to fit the PCM back tall the way in? I am still having trouble with that.

The Denison instruction is useless, took me awhile to figure out.

Yes - but I didn't mount the Dension behind the PCM (in the PCM compartment).. I mounted it on top of the transmission tunnel by dropping down the glovebox.

Easy to do - about 7 screws and a wire connection. Don't let the glovebox drop down too far without disconnecting the silly hose going to the glovebox vent.. it will come out at the other end and is a PITA to get that end back.

Mounted there, you can run the cables for the USB (which is GREAT! Works really well!) port and the iPod port to the cubby under the center arm rest. The trim on the console has to come up, but it's only 2 screws (in the cubby - the black piece on top) and then it pops out. Using some of the plastic trim removal tools eases getting it out. Unplug the switch connection for 4WD and level adjustment (if you have it), then I ran the USB down the left side and the iPod cable down the right side. You can tuck these up behind the pleather trim piece on the sides of the console under the dash (it basically pops away from the console.. just tug on it toward the front, you'll see what I mean.)

For the BlueTooth adaptor - I mounted the BTA-1500 on the top of the glovebox toward the passenger's door (double-faced foam tape is your friend!)

That puts it close enough to the right side A pillar to run the microphone cable up the A pillar and across the windshield. I ran the cable under the door gasket on the A pillar, then across behind the trim where the A pillar trim meets the headliner (near the upper right corner of the windshield), then across the windshield under the headliner (it will pull down from the top of the windshield.) Managed to get the microphone almost centered on the drivers seat.

Using the BTA volume settings, I got it so it's quite acceptable for handsfree use. I used ###13 for the microphone setting, and ***11 for the speaker setting.

Now I just have to figure out how to run the accessory CDC fiber cable all the way from the back corner where the CD changer lives up to the spot where the GW500 lives. Anyone have any clues?

Good luck!
