New member saying hello...
Hi Folks. I just joined the site recently and thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a 50 yr old car/suv fanatic and my most recent purchase, a 2008 Cayenne GTS, is my 67th vehicle. Some other notable vehicles I've owned are a 2008 BMW 335i, X5 4.4i, an '86 Corvette with a 4+3 transmission, a couple of Supras, several Chevy 2-door Tahoes, several older Dodge Ramchargers & Plymouth Trail Dusters, etc., etc... I'm not dedicated to any one brand as I love them all. My Cayenne is my 2nd Porsche with the other one also being a 2008 GTS which I had for only a month. Long story short - whenever I buy a used vehicle I continue to torture myself by continuing to look on line for a few weeks after the purchase to see what I missed out on. Well, this time I discovered that I missed out on a GTS that had 50K fewer miles and the one option I was really hoping to find - PDCC. So, for just a few grand more I went ahead and made the trade. Very happy I did this as I'm just in love with the truck and it only has 20K miles on it. I was also one of the very first members of XOutpost when I had my X5 - GREAT group of folks on that forum and I see this is a great forum as well.
One more quick note to share with you before this post gets too long... I just made my first mistake with my GTS. I purchased a set of Fabspeed cat bypass pipes and had them installed. Nothing at all wrong with the pipes or Fabspeed (in fact, I had a great experience dealing with them) but I guess I'm getting too old for that much exhaust sound. It's just too much for me so I have an appointment to have the cats put back on this coming Monday. Live & learn I guess. Oh, if anyone wants the pipes they'll have less than 100 miles on them and I'll give you a great deal.
Anyhow, looking forward to learning and helping others around here as much as I can...

Thanks skier! There's just something about those late 90s 2-door Tahoes that's very appealing to me - very nice vehicles for what they are!
And thank you Anne123 and welcome as well! Congrats on your 04 CS - I'm sure you'll love it too!

Thanks 03EvoIII. I can certainly relate but for me I feel that the truck lost some of that wonderful Porsche refinement with the exhaust being that loud. That said, the sound is absolutely wonderful V8 music but it just didn't sit right with me for a Porsche. If it was a '69 Camaro that would be a different story and I would have included a nice set of headers in my custom exhaust and that would have been a perfect match. I wasn't expecting that much of a sound increase at all. When I had my 2004 X5 4.4i I did what I thought was a similar mod when I replaced the resonator with straight pipes. This increased the sound only very slightly (in fact, so little increase that my girlfriend didn't even notice) and that was just right for me. I thought these pipes would provide a similar result but I guess not. All that said, I'd like to again note that there is absolutely no blame to put on Fabspeed here. Jeff was very pleasant and helpful on the phone, he even gave me a great deal, and I had the pipes in hand in just a couple of days. It was totally my doing and I wouldn't hesitate to order from Fabspeed again. Live and learn...

Ya know, I absolutely loved my '04 X5 4.4i as well - especially those sport seats along with the M5 steering wheel I added. In comparison, I feel that the GTS is a step up from that vehicle. The GTS is faster, quieter AND louder (I just love the switchability), and with PDCC the GTS handles MUCH better than the X5. The one thing I liked better in the X5 though was those sport seats. I wish the GTS seats had thigh extensions like the X5 sport seats - then it would be just perfect. I think that the GTS compares better with the X5 4.8is. I drove one of these as well and while I loved that vehicle too, I thought the suspension was just too stiff for me. That's another thing I really love about the GTS - I think the ride is just amazing for how flat this machine corners.
Please tell the XOutpost folks "X5Jay" says hello and I miss them all dearly. Maybe I'll just have to pay a visit over there again soon to say hi...

Welcome to 6Speed Jay, its a great place with plenty of information and members that are very helpful. Sorry to hear you didn't like the sound of the catbypass pipe upgrade, but thank you for all the great feedback, it was a pleasure having you here and working with your GTS.
If you want it to sound a little more aggressive all around, you can unplug the vacuum lines to the valves on your stock muffler. That will leave the valves open so it will produce a more deeper growl that you might like. Its worth a try and only takes minutes. Let me know if you any questions or need anything.
thanks,
