Drive shaft vibration advice?

I had my shop replace my drive shaft yesterday with a brand new shaft setup and after getting it back from them I noticed a bit of vibration in the car between 43 and 55 MPH. I took it back to them and they "reindexed" the driveshaft and gave it back to me. Needless to say the shake vibration is still there. Its not a horrible vibration, my wife didnt even notice it until I pointed it out to her.

As long as it isnt going to break something or be dangerous this is something I could live with, But is it dangerous? Will it cause more problems?

Any suggestions on what I should do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did they use the Porsche tool for centering the driveshaft so it runs straight? It can be done with measuring equipment, but the Porsche tool fits right on the shaft and driveshaft tunnel and centers it, then the center bearing mount is tightened.

BTW - unless they split the shaft at the sliding joint, there should be no reason to "reindex" it, and I'm not certain that has to be (or can be) done with CV joint shafts anyway..

Im not sure if they used "the Porsche tool" or not, I would assume no (not to many Porsches around this area) because they're a small indy shop.

Should I take it to the stealership and let them put it on?

It certainly wouldn't hurt (except financially).. and at least that would eliminate that as a possible cause of the vibration.

Definitely take it in. These cardan shafts are costly and last only about 60,000-80,000 miles. One must be prepared to replace them regularly. At a grand each time. This is a known weakness in the early design.

I had to replace the shaft on my truck... and had to do it twice in a matter of two days. I bought a replacement shaft online from a specialized Porsche Shaft place (can't remember the exact place) and put it in. The stupid thing had minor vibrations in it. Took it all back off and went and purchased a new shaft from the dealer. That one was perfect!

Good luck!
