Is there anything special you have to do to install or is it something you can do with a simple hand vacuum pump to get the air out of the system? I'm due for a fluid change anyway.

It can be done the "old school" way but I would recommend a power bleeder, this will make the whole process a lot easier. You shouldn't need any special tools to bleed it unless you let the ABS hydraulic unit run completely dry.
