New 2009 Turbo S owner - with audio questions
In a couple weeks I will be picking up a 2009 Turbo S. I'll make another post with details if and when that deal follows through. I am trying to plan my speaker upgrades. Please do not reply and tell me to keep it stock...
I have tried to search. There's a lot of info on amp/sub replacement but not much for other stuff. Any help is appreciated.
1) From what I understand, the S comes standard with the "14" speaker Bose surround system. Can anybody tell me what this actually means? I'm sure they are counting a two-way speaker as separates.
2) How big are the speakers? I need to know what I can replace them with. Crutchfield is useless here.
3) This car has the $750 XM Radio option. I can't imagine an infinite XM radio subscription, so what is this?
4) This is my best guess for how the sound is disseminated in the Cayenne:
- The PCM in the dash has some kind of output (surely not RCA) to a Bose amp in the spare tire area
- This amp powers a subwoofer in the spare tire area
- This same amp powers all "14" speakers
(maybe I'm wrong and the speakers are directly connected to the the head unit?)
From my previous car, I already have a 5 channel JL amp (one for the sub and four for the speakers), 10" JL sub, and a BitOne sound processor I can re-use. I have 6.5" Focal components that could go up front and 6.5" matching two way speakers for the rear, if they will fit, pending the answer to item #2 above.
I'd build the sub into the driver side panel in the cargo area (a la JL Stealthbox). I'd run the PCM output to the BitOne (if I can intercept the signal) and the BitOne to the Amp.
Help? Thoughts? Thank you.

1) There are 14 discrete speakers. What additional info do you want to know?
2) Not sure.
3) For $750 the XM receiver is installed. The subscription is separate.
4) Not sure.

Bit 1 huh.. nice piece of equipment you have there. I come from a little bit of car audio background so I know some quality equipment when I hear it.
1,2,3, and 4.
I will start with the factory speakers from front to rear. In the center front is a 2.5" mid/high range speaker. The front sides of the dashboard have a 1" tweeter, the front doors have a 8" woofer in the lower portion of the door and a 3" mid range in the upper portion of the door. The rear doors have a 6.5" low/mid range speaker in the lower portion, and a 1" tweeter in the upper portion. the rear ("D" post) has a 2.5" mid/ high range speaker and the 5.25" sub woofer is located in your wheel well. The amp is digital so you should be able to tap into it via the Bit1. It is 8 channels (amp) so my guess is that the channels go something like (1 front dash,2 center, 3 FR door, 4 FL door, 5 RR door, 6 RL door, 7 rear d post, 8 sub woofer) but thats just my guess but I doubt its far from that.
XM is just the original owner bought it. Probably not lifetime subscription but would be nice lol.
I haven't pulled mine out yet but I would assume that the H/U (head unit) is line out (direct wires) to the amplifier. I'm going to wait to do any audio until my warranty is done but I plan to run all the output off of the amp (cut the wires) and wire them to an RCA adapter, then connect that to amp/ processor and amp.
Just for the record I am no audio specialist, however I have done a few custom builds (my last one was a Lexus RX) so I have a little bit of experience with that. Good luck with this addition however and be sure to take plenty of pictures..
