Bought an 04 Cayenne in Nov, under 50k, rare with Spare wheel on rear, Nav, bose, etc. ANyway, I am pretty sure this head unit should NOT be a 3.0, but on the "trip & nag" read it clearly states it is. Is it possible previous owner did an upgrade. See pic.

 

Anything is possible. Since I'm not familiar with " trip & nag" check your build sheet and you will know.

 

That is the software revision that is loaded in your cd based PCM 2 or dvd based 2.1.
Not to be confused with the PCM 3 hardware unit that was fitted from 2009.

It's necessary to update the firmware in order to update the map software. Firmware update 3.0 was necessary to install the 2008 map set. The 2004 Cayenne was equipped with PCM 2.0, which is CD-based. The 2005 cars switched to PCM 2.1, which is DVD-based. The DVD system has a DVD player under the passenger's front seat. The CD system allows you to load the CDs into the head unit one at a time.

A new map update is now available, and typically there is a firmware update packaged with the map discs. I haven't done it yet, so I'm not sure if it uses 3.0 or updates it again during the installation.
