Introduction - New to me 04 CTT

Hey All,

Just purchased a high mileage 04 CTT and it finally arrived yesterday. And by high i mean high. 195k miles. The previous owner had done a great job with fixing all the major issues and preventive maintenance, so it's in great shape for the mileage. I got this to supplement my e39 m5, and also because it's hard to fit whiskey barrels in the trunk of that car.

Drove it around for a bit yesterday and initial impressions are:
- A bit daunting at first given its size, but it's actually really nimble, and turning radius is sharp.
- I tried tossing it around while switching lanes to see if there was any body roll. Nope. Very planted and got the same secure feel that i get in my m5.
- The interior feels awesome. One of these days i'm going to take a nap in there.
- Past 2k/2.5k RPM the turbo comes on, and slams me back. I've only ever driven N/A cars, so the turbo sensation was new and pretty awesome.

Nits/Mods i think i'll need:
- From everything i've read on this forum, diverter valves first
- The turbo comes on a bit later than i'd like. I drive in the city a lot, so unless i really mash the pedal, the acceleration seems a little more lethargic at first than i'd like. Once the turbo comes on, it's great. Nothing a tune wouldn't solve, i imagine.
- The rear liftgate won't stay up - seems like this is a function of the cold temperatures and should go away in warm weather (PO has no issues)
- Brake boost light warning is on. Probably a leak somewhere that i'll get to at some point.
- Secondary cat bypass at some point soon.

I'll try post up pics soon!

I'm new as well. This seems to be a fun site with a bunch of decent people.

Here is a thread you should appreciate...

Heh, yeah, that was actually the first thread i read because i wasn't sure the engine/trans lasted that long. The POs maintenance history and that thread convinced me though.

Some downpipes or secondary cat delete pipes will help the boost spool up a bit earlier in the RPM range. Liftgage struts are shot - common problem. If you're handy, you can do it yourself. Otherwise, about 400-ish parts and labor from a porsche dealer. Warm temps won't help them. Check the brake booster lines near the brake booster pump (area near coolant reservoir). It's pretty common for those lines to crack or break at the fittings with the check valves. You can replace the lines (hundred bucks maybe), or bond/tape/etc the crack.

Did you happen to purchase that vehicle from a gentleman named Paul out in GA?

So interestingly enough - it was 28 in Chicago yesterday when i got the car. Liftgate wouldn't stay up. It's 56 right now and i just tried, and the lift gate stayed up. I wish i was making this up. In any case, strut replacement is definitely on my to do list.

And yes, bought it from Paul. . Did you happen to check the vehicle out as well?

My rear struts need replacing as well. They also work when warm.

They can stay up when it's cold since the rubber tightens up and the oil is thicker.

Yeah, talked with Paul about his CTT. Really clean car, but between the few issues it had, and the price he was asking at the time, it was just too much. Plus, I wanted 4-zone and wasn't a fan of the soft-touch leather seats. Glad to see an enthusiast purchased it, though! It's the color that was on the top of my list, but I ended up with a silver car (not my fav color).
