All Cayenne owners please give advise! Thanks!

I am going to have my first baby in 7 months so I think it's the time to buy a family car now. I am looking at the Cayenne S now, can anyone give me some details on the following questions? Because I am comparing Cayenne S and the Lexus GX470 now... Many many thanks.

1. What is the average insurance you pay per year?

2. Have you had any major problems? How reliable is Cayenne S Model?

3. What is the average spending on something like oil change, major/minor maintain?

4. How about buying a 04 model with good condition to save some money?

Sorry for the questions guys...Man, I never thought I will have baby before 30, but now he/she comes!! I need to look at the wallet now...

1: I cant really answer that question it varies.

2: No major problem.. knocking on wood. But you will get these minor glitches from time to time

3: I had the car for almost 3 years now. I spend around 400 for the 1st service and another 100 for an oil change.

4: Buying a 2nd hand cayenne will save you a lot of paper!

1. insurance varies, but i have had my licensce for less than 5 years but i have a perfect driving record and i pay about $2000 a year.

2. i have had some minor glitches, but they were all fixed and car is great now. (if u buy used, try to get a CPO).

3. first year service is $300.

4. Again, if u buy used, try to get a CPO.

Thanks both 2 of you! I have thought the same on the rate of the services. $400-500/Yr is not bad at all consider for a Porsche.

I have clean history too, only had few parking tickets but I don't think this will hurt. I am expecting the insurance to be under $1500 for a married guy like me, hopefully I can get it.

I am now looking at 04 S model and the average price on good condition is around $45K. I think this is very fair already, any suggestions??

Certified Pre-Owned is a must (100,000 mile warranty). I got mine @52K with 28K miles about 7 months ago. I seen some for 47K CPO. It's the best SUV i've driven so far. I've driven an X5, MDX, and Range Rover Sport. The handling is superb. There's only one other SUV that I'd trade my CS for, that would for a Cayenne Turbo.

Thanks Man, I like Turbo too but I don't think I need that much power for my baby...It will be mainly driven by my wife but I still want to take it to the track someday later! I am in for the S, Hopefully I can find a CPO one with air suspension...Man, it is hard to find a 04 one with air suspension, do you think this is a must? or option?

Iceman,

CONGRATS, that's really exciting news about the baby. If no one else has told you; let me be the first, your life is about to change big time..... for the better.

Being the 'old man' of this group, my advice would be to find something new and safe for your wife to drive and start a 'college fund' with the balance of your Cayenne budget.

Thanks Mike! I appreciate your advise. Yes I am now still balance between a RX400H, GX470 and Cayenne S. My wife said she doesn't care as long as it has enough room and also safe for kids. I have always trusted Porsche since my first 993 but I guess the safety now comes to the first. I love my family. They gave me great support whenever I need them. I will find the right car for my coming baby

We didn't plan to have kids till 2008, but I guess we were too exciting on the last trip to Las Vegas 2 months ago... Here we go, you are right, my life is going to change big time

When I looked for my CS my requirements were (Blue or Red exterior, Navi, & Air Suspension). It's difficult to find a CS with Navi & Air. I found one but not with both unless you look out of state. So I had to weigh which one was more important for me, Navi or Air Sus? I decided Navi. I have no regrets with my steel suspension. The ride is a bit on the stiff side by it handles like a sports car. The handling is very solid, controllable, and stable at all speed range. The air susp. is a nice to have but not required in my case.

You got the point! I am now trying to find one with Air Suspension but damn it is so hard! I found most of them do come with Nav but rarely have Air Suspension! I prefer steel but since the car is for my wife and kid so I will talk with her again to see if she is OK with Steel. Thanks Techm8n!

If you are buying new it should be no problem to find one w/ the options that you want. Your dealer should be able to search the dealer network and get you a vehicle on any other dealers lot. When I bought my S back in December, I told them I wanted Silver or Grey, Black Soft Look leather, Air suspension, Navigation, Moonroof and comfort package. Any other options didnt matter. In 10 minutes he came back with a list of 3 vehicles that met my criteria (2 in California and 1 in oregon- where I am at).
While the Navigation + Air Susp on an S might not be too common, there is bound to be several across the country sitting on a lot somewhere in the color you want and the options you want.
Worst case you order one from Germany. The way I see it is this- If you are going to spend $60k+ on a vehicle you should make sure you get it exactly the way you want. When spending this kind of money you shouldnt have to "settle" for a vehicle. If you want it a very specific way, order it exactly that way, dont spend $60k on something you dont want.
