Mercedes ML 63 AMG vs. Cayenne turbo S
#32
It seems the 63 is posting some disappointing performance results. So, far we have only seen a e63 run a 13.08 sec 1/4 at 108mph. Compared to the 55's low 12's at 118 and the M5's high 12 low 13 1/4. I think Mercedes made a big mistake by going to a NA motor. It's unfortunate the new ML did not get the 55k.

it's against natural to run a SUV for those numbers. i sorta agree, Rob. i'm not sure it's a good idea to run the 63 motor in the ML/SUV while the beauty is the top-end. why would someone driving a truck @ higher rpm all the time.

When making this run I have PSM off, suspension set to sport and lowered 1 setting, A/C completely off, windows closed. Weather was 85 degrees, mild humidity. Run was done on a desterted flat level black top surface.
Car has 2600 miles on it. (it really has come alive since it was brand new, which is probably why some mags might not get as good of acceleration results). Car had very little gas in it, maybe 2-3 gallons.
Launch was done by power braking up to 2900 RPMs and letting her rip. I got slight rear wheel chirp as the front wheels gripped and the car just flew off the line.
I love this car!!

My 2004 Turbo did that to me as well. But I was able to successfully do a power brake launch with it most of the time. I found that the longer you take to do the launch while power braking the more chance you have of it going into that safe mode. I suggest launching within 5 seconds of revving while the brake is held. I am not sure they have changed this, I probaby just launch fast enough so it hasnt happened to me in my 2006 yet.

ml63 is pretty fast! I really wish it can do sub 13 sec in 1/4 that would be awesome!
