Safe to replace 5W bulbs for 10W bulbs (license plate lights)?

I wouldnt do it, I dont think it will burn wires (but why risk it on a $4 bulb), but you might deform the lense at some point in time cause it will run hotter.
Keep an eye on the fuse to that circuit (make sure its the right size), its the only means in protecting the wire.

The amps / draw can overtax the wiring, the scary part is it is not necessarily right at the bulb housing area - that means your hunting through the cars electricals for a melted part which cant be fun or cheap.
Most of the unbranded / ebay bulbs stick a 10w filament in there and market it as 'replaces all fitments including X,Y,Z'. While the length and shape of the bulb shares 5 or 6 cross fitments the wattage does not, it might share 2.
The Hoen C5W's are safe, same draw, same wattage. 10W's are not.
