DIY Oil Change
#46
I have changed my oil since day one, I cheat though because I use a lift... The panels are the pita... Everything else is straight forward basic. The brakes are not bad either those I can do with a floor jack if need be, but so far I was able to get a lift every time....

+1 on this one...doing anything for your car makes one more acutely aware should anything become 'different'. Gets you into position of knowing your car better and knowing when something does not feel right. Otherwise, you just drive it and cannot foresee potential problems coming up. IMHO.

Just did my oil change for the first time on my CTT. It's like everyone says - removing under panels is the most time consuming part - other than that, very simple and straight forward. I got a great deal - 9 quarts of mobil 1 and a filter for about 50 bucks. It was rewarding doing it on my own, I know it was done right, and I saved about $200 from the dealer cost. For anyone who has a little time and doesn't mind getting a little dirty - I say it's a must do!

Autozone or advance auto parts. I think they both have a deal through the end of March. The deal is actually for 5 quarts and a filter for $32.99. Then they had a sale price on the oil itself too. I guess it came to about sixty bucks, but still a great price!

Here in Panama, prices are a bit different.... $28 for the filter and $15.50 for each quart of Mobil 1 (uses 9 quarts). Then it is $50 for labor and another $45 to reset the computer. $262.50 for a basic oil change performed by the ex head mechanic of the local stealer.
