21" Winter tire? Hmmmm...I'm in the same boat. From all the research I've done...albeit, none hands on, 18" would be the maximum size to get proper winter performance. Just got a GTS, but need to get a winter setup in a few months. I was thinking going down to some 18" wheels with some solid black rims for the black GTS to make it a snow beast. Of course, the 21" winter tire would make things a lot easier....just wonder if it would even be worth it.

I've used 19's and 20's and they're fine
I live in northern Minnesota where there is plenty of ice, snow and freezing cold weather. I had 19's for two winters on an Audi S8 and never had a problem. This last part of this winter I had a CTYTS with 20' snows and never had a problem. 18's may be best, and 21's may be bigger than I would try, but my experience is 19's and 20's are fine.

you will definitely lose winter performance on a larger rim size.
i need to switch off my 22" wheels for a dedicated winter rim. i was debating an all-season but decided they are really a "NO" season tire and not suitable for Calgary's extended cold/snow.
my original decision was techno sport 20" but now i am for sure going with one of the new 21" designs and a set of Pirelli Scorpion Snow & Ice (295/35R21) tires. i decided i am willing to sacrifice a bit of performance and this setup will be adequate for my use.

Well, since you're in Calgary and I assume go to and from Banff, Sunshine, Lake Louise, etc....your insight is very much appreciated. My dilemma is between some non-low pro 18" winter/all season and the 21" winter. If I go 18" then I'll also have a tire that go more seriously off-road. I basically commute to and from Tahoe from November through June, so winter rated tires are a must to get through chain controls.

i plan to ski a lot more this year since i picked my big pepper.
i got the cayenne this spring so i will not have any insight until after next winter.
i am set on the 21" dedicated winter tire setup. i think the performance will be good and it will not not sacrifice my vehicles looks. i do not take my vehicle off roading either.
i love it when ppl ask me what i plan to run in the winter. i just remark i am changing my 22"s for 21"s and then i get the jaw drop look!!
