odometer jumped 13,000 miles?!

ok so if any have read some previous posts of mine, my pixels on my instrument cluster were burning out, so the dealer ordered a new cluster. well last night i dropped it off for service.

well they put in the new cluster, and my mileage on it went from 16,900 to 29,116.

any ideas on why? they cant figure it out so right now my mileage is reading at 29k, and yesterday when i dropped it off it read at 16k.....

i got it back and theyre gonna try to figure it out, ordering a new cluster to try it again.

any thoughts???

Error when they were programming it. Take it back, and they will typically have to get ANOTHER new instrument cluster... unless they can go through the back door and change the mileage (rare).

ha definitely not in kansas anymore!

well yeah so hopefully they get another cluster soon. what if they have the same issue again is what im worried about lol...i hope they saved my old cluster!! they said when they put it in the mileage jumped to 29k

how likely is it that they can turn the mileage back to what it was and supposed to be?

Very rarely are they able to change it back.

They just need to order you another one, and pay close attention to the R.O. with your CORRECT mileage. The tech might have had more than one R.O. he was looking at and just popped the numbers in.

that is a great point - it doesn't quite work as it would read 27k km but that assumes the inbound # was bang on.

otherwise, unless they can show your old cluster was malfunctioning, i would think they need to recalibrate.

nope its definitely in miles.

lol well my old cluster was definitely not malfunctioning, it moved mile per mile with me. i hardly use the car, obv, its an 05 w/16 k miles....i used my a4 a lot more for commuting to work...and now have a sl500 that im using a lot during the summer.

do they plug the numbers in or does it automatically go to what the computer says or something...i dont quite understand how it works....bc the service advisor said it 'jumped' to 29xxx when it was connected

and if they could just recalibrate or reset the mileage i dont know why they would go to the bother of ordering a new one......now im a bit worred!

The Service Advisor is giving you a line of crap.

The tech has to manually input the mileage into the computer, and then it burns into the cluster.

well i didnt see it but the service advisor said they ordered it new, thats why i apparently had to wait a week. and it looks brand new? and they charged the warranted $650 for the cluster so.....IM ASSUMING ITS NEW! lol.

well...im driving it this week so im guessing theres a computer in my car that knows the real value somewhere because right now its 29xxx and im quite annoyed. hopefully the new cluster comes in this wk and they can put it in and itll work! ha
