SLP are you basing your decision on if a detector has POP protection? If you are only driving around Long island I would not worry about POP. Your main concern for Long Island should be LIDAR. I do not know of any agency here using POP.

The K40 is a scam that they aim at people with higher end cars because they know that you have money to burn.

Wow, the K40 will pay the cost of your laser tickets for 1 year. It is easy to pay for that because how many laser tickets do you receive in one year? I am sure they can handle a few traffic tickets when the K40 doesn't work and they just made $2000+ off of you.

Hate to break this to you but you are the one delusional. I had a C5 corvette with the K40 system with front and rear diffusers and it worked just as well as Blinder system that I had on a 996. All the jammer/diffuser does is cause the laser to take a longer time to calculate speed and distance. You also fail to realize it doesn't continually send out a signal. with the K40 it would transmit and then reset itself. All I have seen a jammer/diffuser do is change the distance a vehicle is picked up at. Don't believe the hype that a jammer /diffuser will completely make you safe and is undetectable to cops.

Well POP seems to be the 'new danger' so to speak. I drive a lot more than in LI. The last ticket I received was upstate on the way down to LI from Montreal. I take a lot of road trips.....usually to Michigan....Toronto....Hartford, Mass....etc. On the Island....Im usually quite good in pacing myself its on those long road trips.....

I've been looking and the escort x50/v1 are pretty close, i mean.....in detection its pretty similar except for maybe a few feet difference. I sort of like the escort astetically as well.

I didnt realize LIDAR is the main concern for Long Island? Right now I have a Cobra...its been decent....all these years...except for this recent ticket, but then again....i was going about 95 on the NYS thruway....so i cant really blame the detector....lol....by the time it picked the cop up and i slammed on my brakes he clocked me at 87...

thankfully my lawyer reduced it to a 2 point failure to obey traffic signal as opposed to the 6 point 22mph over the speed limit ticket!!

yeh seriously that would not have been good 22 over. But I think the k40 works quite well...and the v1 so probably between the two would be best.

Check out this radar detector

Seems like k40 and v1 have some stiff competition for a great price

interesting, at at this website its $399

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...equestid=10892

i think i would personally stick w/the v1 or the escort x50 8500 only b/c of the rep....although i do like cobras (all my detectors up until now have been cobras) interesting candidate though lol.

Honestly guys, I owned both the Escort and now the V-1. No contest, my V-1 always goes off before I see the car, much much better and longer range detection than the Escort in my opinion. I gave the Escort away, no contest in my real life test. Just my 2 cents...

The Valentine One is still #1 after the latest radar detector test. Cobra is one of the worst radar detectors made today and the K40 is an overpriced POS that can't jam any lidar guns used today.

The results speak for themselves:

What a tool, is there a site you don't visit stating K-40 sucks? seriously have you ever owned a K40 and use it? Do you know anything about their new Laser Diffuser?

You are just a cheerleader for the guys of Lidar, the radar detectors.com... and al the other sites that aren't allowed to sell k40 on line... oh yeah you forgot to mention that also... K40 isn't sold online by them so they have to bash it...

you also told me the Laser diffuser wouldn't work on a Range rover... Hate to correct you but it saved me several times in one week, I have at least 50 people that i know with K40 installed and talk nothing but praise about them, in fact 2 replaced a V! and one replaced the escort 9500 POS...

You know, you are probably a nice person and all that, but you shouldn't be a tool. the reason I like K40 so much, is because of misinformed people like yourself stating it doesn't work, then spreads gossip, or an Eopinion around the net.

here you go with a video on the older first generation stand alone laser diffuser, not the second, which interfaced with the calibre, or the third one which is the new slim line, but the first... with a real active duty cop, that does it for a living, in the real world, driving a real police unit (he drives Motorcycle also) and is a traffic officer that means he does this on the freeway where people drive...

the v1 has been treating me quite well too.

but any protection is better than nothing. when possible, i think you just need to be a "careful" speeder...don't lead the pack or be a straggler...this gives you a chance with lidar or instant-on.

Well thanks everyone for ALL of the help with the radar detector help. I finally bought one.....I decided to go with the Escort x50 (blue led edition).

They seemed almost similar but without the arrows. I know the arrows would be nice but Ive lived without it so I dont know what Im missing yet, so I havent become dependent on it! I've had it for a week and yesterday it FINALLY started going off on the highway and sure enough after a little driving I noticed the cop hiding out. I was impressed with its range.

Even though the main consensus was on the v1....when it came down to it aesthetically i was more attracted to the Escort. Oh well....if I didnt get the best...at least i have a pretty close 2nd place!

i have had a k40 hardwired in a 911 and used to compare it with a v1 all the time. granted the k40 was a 2005 model and the v1 i have is maybe a bit over a year old. at any rate, the v1 was significantly better, gave much earlier warning and of course was more useful. even my girlfriend at the time used to make comments on how much better the v1 is and she had no clue about what is going on.

i personally cant comment on the k40 laser jammer as i have never used it, but as far as radar detecting, the v1 was waaaay better.

what i am interested is in how V1 will respond to the new 9500. that unit has so much technology and obviously based on the tests is closing the gap on v1. i personally would like to see some innovation from v1, namely a laser jammer unit, and some other stuff cuz i think escort will catch up sooner than later.

Add one to the V1 corner. Hardwire it and it isn't quite as unsightly. Leave it on the visor. Hasn't missed for me yet (knock on wood).
