2011 oil consumption

Is anyone besides myself a little agitated that the 2011 (S in my case) is designed to burn a quart of oil every 600 miles? I mean, that mean adding oil once a week! Other than the time taken to add oil and some minimal additional expense, it just seems off that an engine is designed to use that much oil!
Does everyone just accept that is just a consequence of owning these vehicles or would you have not bought one had you been aware of it beforehand? Just curious about other opinions.....

I don't know much about the S, but with the my Turbo I do not even burn that much. I first had to add oil between the first 800-900 miles, then again at about 2800/2900, and I think it is really odd that an S would burn more than that. I would suggest having it checked out if it is every 600 miles, because a Turbo burns more oil due to the forced induction of the Turbochargers, I may be wrong on that. Your S should not burn that much oil in my own opinion. Not even the Jag XKR I had burned that much(never had to put any in the whole time I had it, even though I only had it up to between 10,000-12,000 miles). I would think a supercharger burns more oil then a normally aspirated engine also. Even my brother's R8 does not burn oil that fast.

I own both a Turbo and S. My S did initially burn alot during the first 5K miles, but it now about 1 quart for for every 2-3K miles. Not that bad.

In my opinion, all Cayennes burn oil and it is normal. It will get less. If it doesn't, get better than 1 quart per 600 miles, I would worry.

My wife has had her Cayenne S since 8/19/10 5230 miles so far she has burned less than 1/2quart total. I think I would be asking hard questions if I had to add a qt every 600 miles. Maybe the key is to not let them set long enough for oil to evaporate

i have an 11 turbo. i had to take it to the dealer to fill it up after 1400 miles. they did it free of charge this time, but don't know if they will continue to top off the oil.

are your dealers doing it for free?

if not, where can we order some oil?

At 1250 miles, added 1.3 quarts and called dealer. They said owners manual states up to 1.5 qts per 1000 Km. I checked manual and sure enough, it says exactly what they told me it said. I just don;t really understand why they design an engine to burn oil. More than the cost, the hassle of a weekly quart or more top off. I also have a 2010 S and it only needs about 2 qts every 10k miles or so.. So, do you guys think this will be enough irritation to discourage others from buying the new Cayenne, or do you just accept the bad with the good and say 'it could be worse'?

That seems like too much, I think 1 quart every 600 is too much but Audi says that is normal in their cars as well.....

^^^That is a bit excessive, I'd hope that every 600 miles isn't the norm. I've heard of oil needing to be changed after the first 2k, but never eating oil every 600 miles.

I have an '09 CTTS I have had since new with 32,000 miles on it. I average a quart of oil every 4000 to 5000 miles.

2011 Cayenne Oil Usage

I replaced my 2005 with a 2011 Cayenne S on 8/20/10. To date the car has used 5.5 quarts of oil in 3010 miles ! An average of 550 miles per quart.

Porsche of Orlando say this is normal !!!!

I would not have bought the car had I known of this ahead of time. The sheer inconvenience let alone cost is ridiculous for an $80,000 car. I have a friend who is the MD of an Aston Martin franchise, his comment to me was that any modern car that needs oil between scheduled oil changes has a problem. My 2005 Cayenne S never had oil put in other than at scheduled oil changes.

I also have an issue with marks on the plastic `skirt` below the front door. I do not go off road but drove through something that splashed up off my front tyres. Whatever it was wiped off the door panel when the car was washed but will not come off the plastic skirt section. It is smooth to the touch and not pitted. My local dealer has tried without success to remove it. They say it is normal road usage damage. My comments to them were `why would Porsche use a material on the car that is liable to staining` ? They had no reply.
