New here. First, thank you very much for the great threads - they have been very helpful in learning about Cayennes.

Second - I fully realize everyone is going to jump on me for building a hybrid. However, I actually do like the idea of having better fuel economy and less emissions. Consequently, I am going forward with it instead of a Cayenne S. I don't feel like it will be a terrible tragedy since I am leasing this time around. If I were purchasing, I likely would not go this route.

I haven't totally settled on the colors (considering meteor grey/umber tartufo because I like the pictures at this link: http://www.porsche.com/usa/accessori...rgreymetallic/) or the wheels (still trying to decide between 20" Sypder and the 21" SportEdition). Would love any thoughts people may have.

Is there anything I am missing or should reconsider? Also, I had a couple of questions that I was hoping someone could help with:

1. Does anyone have the Panorama Roof System? Debating whether to delete it because the dealer indicated it made the cabin unbearably hot.

2. I have not sat in the 18-way seats. However, I am not fat, but wide. Would the 14-way be better?

3. It appears when you select "walnut interior" that you can't also select "interior leather package". Is that right?

4. Not so much a question, but it appears the hybrid doesn't have 4-zone climate control.

5. Does selecting the "off road body protection" give you the skid plates such that you do not have to order them separately?

6. Is anyone getting any discounts on the hybrid models? The TT discounts seem to range from 4%-6%.

I got the 20" Spyders on my Cayenne with the coloured crests. Love the look of them as they are different then a lot of the rims on the market. On my daily commute I checked out all the different rims cars/suv's had and so many looked like the Turbo2's

18 way seats will be a less comfy if you are wide, the side bolsters holds you in quite well. the only thing i would recommend is the light comfort package, it adds entry lights, ambient lights for only around 100 bux.

Great build, I would add PDCC and PTV. I personally found the 18-way seats to be a bit uncomfortable because of the intrusive side bolsters.

 

Welcome to 6speed. I love your build. How about adding rear side air bags. Pana roof has a perforated screen which shuts off 85 % of the sunlight. I would not worry about overheating. See my thread on the pana roof with some detailed pics and decide for yourself. If it's for three years I would not worry about Cayenne hybrid reliability. Good job on the insul glass for your Burmester. I would recommend PDCC/PTV for reasons I've mentioned a thousand times on my previous posts. Roof rails cannot be added in the future, so if you might use it...get it now and it's cheaper with the pana roof. Please try out the 18-way, it can get uncomfortable for some especially with it's deep side bolsters. I however love the snug fit and styling of the 18's. If I were you I would ditch the leather interior exclusive package, skid plates and Porsche entry/drive and use that for the PDCC/PTV. You should try to get a 5% discount for your build which seems to be what most here have got on their custom build.

horfun - That is correct - the hybrid does not have any of the following as options: PDCC or PTV. Also, it appears there is no 4-zone climate control.

w00t - I have temporarily decided against the rear airbags, mainly because we hope to have a baby on the way this year and did not think it would be good for a baby in the backseat. Would I be wrong about that?

w00t - That is perfect. I really like the idea of the full roof.

w00t - Thank you so much for the advice- I was able to sit in them and was not a fan. They would be fantastic if it were a sports car or if I were purchasing a turbo, but I am thinking the 14s are better for purposes of this purchase.

I don't understand that philosophy. Three years is a long time to have an unreliable (and expensive) vehicle. And, if you're constantly having problems with it, what's the difference if it is leased or you own it? You're stuck with it either way.
I saw a video review of the Cayenne hybrid recently and the jist of it was that Porsche has some sorting out to do on this vehicle. I can't put my hands on the review; I will post it if I can find it, but after reading other reviews and some of the forum posts, it convinced me to stay away, at least for now.

 

No, I understand and fair enough. I read the one post about overheating and saw the video (which essentially said the software managing the shifts between electric and gas needed refinement). However, the car would be under warranty, and I have spoken with several people that have driven the hybrid and they have said there is no issue with respect to the changes from electric to gas.

As lame as it may be, I don't mind saying I feel some responsibility to purchase something with lower emissions if it is possible to do so without sacrificing so much that it becomes unbearable (i.e., buying a prius). Frankly, I would love a turbo, but I am going this route and I'm not particularly worried about the risk. However, I still want the best hybrid Cayenne I can get - hence, this post....

 

Jack, if the baby plans are in the works, don't go with the side air bags for the rear. Colors, choice of interior is always personal. Easiest to maintian would be silver, Umber and to an extent meteor Grey in that order. Hardest would be black, auburn. Some like white. It all depends on how **** you are about caring for your car. I spend quite a bit of time washing/detailing my Porsches. Hence ordering a Jet black metallic with espr/cogn interior since I love natural leather.

Copasetic222: After I read Jack888 introductory post on this thread, it was very clear to me that he had done his homework. He wants low emissions, better gas mileage. Porsche beats the mileage of competing diesels from Audi, BMW and Mercedes, yet the vehicle will be so much more fun. I said what I said because the car will be under warranty during the period of his lease. I know of atleast 6 people outside of 6speed who love their Cayenne Hybrid and have no issues. We all know that Indonesian Porsche that had problems ... probably a faulty unit. We have a lemon law here and he won't be stuck with it if that should be the case. BTW, for every 5 positive reviews on the hybrid, there will be a couple negative reviews. I think you were talking about the Foxnews review. Despite all the shared technology with VW and Audi, I still feel that the Porsche hybrids will get better as time goes-by. So I would not want to own a first year hybrid model from Porsche, but to lease one....I don't think would be the end of the world.

Jack, when you go over to the delaer check if they have any Pana roofs. Go for a nice long test drive before your hybrid order test the auto start/stop function, sailing mode, regenerative brakes, electrohydraulic steering (different feel from the non-hybrids so test drive a V8 just for the difference)then decide if you like it. If you do go ahead and BE THE FIRST ON 6SPEED TO DRIVE A CAYENNE HYBRID AND CRUSH THE IDEA THAT HYBRIDS CANNOT BE FUN. YOU HAVE MY BLESSINGS AND BEST WISHES.

Very nice build, congrats. You did let me down by switching to the other B instead of the BURM .................. Why ??? Please don't tell me it's the $$. No offense to Bose which is still a good system (I have it on my 997.2).

 

Ha - no, not an issue of cost. Just started thinking about what I actually listen to, and I doubt I would benefit from it. I used to listen to CDs, but have been on a consolidation tear to move all to mp3. However, I definitely will get the Burm if I end up ordering another Cayenne at the end of the lease (which seems more than likely).

Also, I figured the Bose package with XM would be something new for me to try since I have never had XM.

 

...I'll excuse you this time as you have wiggled out with the right explanation. But next time ... wherever you are in the Southeast...I'll come and get you .
