Listening to audio via Bluetooth (A2DP) in the 2011 Cayenne

Not sure if you all knew, (I didn't! Just discovered it) but the 2011 PCM is capable of A2DP. This allows us to listen to audio from our phones (If it's capable of A2DP), through the car stereo, over Bluetooth. Pandora, Last.fm, Police Scanner, what ever you can listen to through headphones, you can listen to through the PCM! Figured I'd share in case some of you didn't know...

Here's how to set it up (warning! These are not professional photos )...

Press the DISC button on the PCM, selecting your CD player or iPod

Press the OPTION button (bottom right)

Turn "AUX Bluetooth" on and then select "Bluetooth settings" to setup a new device or to select an existing device

Here you can choose a device that's already setup or add a new one

I already have one setup, so I chose "ME" (self named)

After selecting the device, you'll come to this screen where you can connect to it

After selecting "Connect" you should be taken right to the device. If not, press the "DISC" button to select "AUX BT"

Now you can open Pandora, Your MP3 player or what ever else you want!

I've only tested song navigation on the iPod portion of my iphone and pressing forward, or back, on the PCM controls, will skip or rewind your songs. Will probably work in Pandora too.

the first reply is about sound quality, but is the quality any worse than the quality of the music on your device?

say the audio is 192kbps on iphone, does it play the same, or does the bluetooth take away quality?

Does the Cayenne have an AUX option when you press source? My Panamera has AUX but my friends Cayenne doesnt...both are 2011s. Is DISC used instead of AUX to set up the bluetooth audio? Thanks

Has anyone been able to do this on a 997 or 987? My manual says I can, but I don't see the AUX-BLUETOOTH option. Yes, I've already paired my A2DP-capable iPhone 4, and I'v e successfully done this on a Panamera. SO, I'm just wondering if anyone else has successfully done this on a 997 or 987.

Thanks!

The sound quality on Pandora sucks. The iPhone sounds a little better, but not much. DVD-A sounds the best. Not sure about XM/Sirius; I skipped on that option.

Thanks for the write up; rep'd.

Is this option standard on all 2011+ Cayennes or do you need to opt for one of the audio options?

According to porsche website (click the link under the bluetooth phone section on http://www.porsche.com/usa/models/ca...l/?gtabindex=4), the bluetooth audio is supported by both the standard PCM and CDR-31 head units. No additional options needed.

finiteyoda is referring to this:
"With this standard feature, you can establish a Bluetooth® connection with a mobile phone that supports the Hands-Free Profile (HFP) and use the CDR-31 audio system or PCM as a hands-free system. As a Bluetooth®-based solution, your handset can be connected without leaving your pocket. The basic phone functions are accessible via the CDR-31 or PCM. The GSM connection is established via the mobile phone antenna."
The above covers the use of the CDR-31 or PCM as an HFP headset, which is different from A2DP which allows the handset to stream audio to the PCM.

In there Mobile Communication pdf, they show a feature "MP3 audio transmission via Buetooth® (AUX BT)", which is supported on both CDR-31 and PCM. Not sure if that's A2DP or HFP (i'd imagine you can select which one you want on your phone?)

I have always been told and been under the impression that you can not wirelessly stream audio via a bluetooth phone with Porsche, but I am understanding that this is not correct?

Absolutely not correct. The latest-gen PCMs in the Panameras and Cayennes are A2DP-capable, which means they can stream audio over Bluetooth. I do it all the time in the loaner cars that my dealer gives me. They don't supply the physical iPod cable, so I always pair my phone for A2DP streaming. It's a snap. Just pair the phone as you would for calls, then go to the source menu and you'll see AUX-BT. If you do this in a loaner, don't forget to delete the phonebook when you're done so subsequent users don't have access to your contacts.

I tired with my sales guy for a while the day we picked up the car and couldn't get the phone to play music through the car. I did exactly as outlined in this thread. The phone worked and I could make a call through the car but no music. We tried my Samsung Galaxy S, a blackberry, and a iPhone. Any ideas of what's wrong?

What car? 2012 Porsche Cayenne? It should work just fine. FWIW, I'm doing it with an iPhone 4. The phone has to be A2DP-capable, of course.
