order Cayenne S 2011 or wait for the 2012
Before I place my order for a Cayenne S this week, I have two issues that I need your help with:
first, if I order mine this week, I will get it in May or June. since I read that some issues are coming up with the 2011 such as ticking noise while shifting 2&3 gear etc. (any other issues). should I wait for the 2012 due in Aug-Sept.
Second, is it worth loading up the Cayenne with about $20K worth of options! such as Turbo wheels, leather, skids plates, extra paint, or just go basic and enjoy the performance. Just sold my 2010 loaded carrera S
thanks

Small sub note - Looks like you might be able to get everything painted on the 2012 where as the 11's are still coming with body panels that are unpainted black plastic. Obviously check with the dealer if this is an important point for you.

In terms of options, go for it. Buying a new Porshce is largely an emotional decision anyway. A Nissan Murano would suffice for similar basic transport. Realize, however, that those options add little to the resale value of the vehicle, so the more you load up, the bigger the initial depreciation hit.
If money and/or value is a factor for you, buy a late model used vehicle. This is what i did. I got my 2009 GTS with only 8600 miles on it for $67k. It priced out at $91k new.

Wait for a 2012 and go light on the options if you are the kind that changes cars every 3 to 4 years. I would not expect any performance changes for the 2012 model but Porsche historically makes certain options standard on the second year. On the 997.2 I had to pay for the universal audio interface which became standard on the 2010s and 2011s.

another option
thanks for the thoughtful comments, I appreciate it. with some luck, if I can get a cayenne s without many options, in the next month or so, I will buy it and see if I like it, then I can trade it with 2012 that I will special order. my salesman has to find me a canceled order or do some magic and that will cost me around $5-10K, but it is worth it for $100k car.

If you really don't like the 2011 Cayenne hold onto to it until the mid-cycle of the current gen and look into the GTS version. Don't trade it in for the 2012 Cayenne which will not be much different than the 2011s. The GTS should be available from (I'm guessing) 2014.

I believe the model year shifts after the factory's august vacation... so first 2012 MY build would be in september

It really depends on your situation. Your April build should arrive May or early June, so you will be able to enjoy it during the summer months. unless you are as picky as myself, who cares about possible minor tweaks and improvements, you should go for it and get your money worth while driving it durning the nice summer weather. good luck
