ZF and its sibling companies make many components for many German marques.

Is their Servotronic steering the same in both vehicles and in the BMW lineup in general. I thought the new electric BMW steering that gets such bad press was dissimilar to the hydraulic Cayenne steering but both come from ZF and both are called Servotronic.

Is their CDC electronic damping control the same as PASM?

Is their ARS, active roll stabilization the same as PDCC?

Their poster product right now is their 8HP tranny that seems to weigh less than the Aisin unit in Cayennes and have fewer parts. Anyone know performance differences in the two units?

I was just wondering whether Porsche specs their ZF components or gets pretty much what BMW and Mercedes get. Any thoguhts or knowledge?

 

I believe that Porsche gives their suppliers specific specs on the parts they source from them. the lady at Leipzig told me that yes most of the parts are outsourced but the design and specs come from Porsche engineers.

 

I believe it. That is common in a lot of manufacturing industries, aerospace and defense in particular. The engineers say what they want and the purchasing team buys accordingly. Detailed and well written purchase specs can be all the difference
