'12 Turbo order - please critique my build plus some questions

First post on this board so I'll start with hello to everyone. I have been lurking for the last week while researching a potential 2011/12 CTT purchase. Lots of good info on here that has been very helpful so thanks to all the contributors/members!

Following is my current thinking on the order:

P5 – Classic Silver Metallic
TY - Two–tone Leather Interior in Umber/Light Tartufo
5MB – Anthricite Birch Interior Package
6Q7 – Tiptronic gear selector aluminum
5ZF – Porsche Crest Embossed on Front and Rear Headrest
PU4 – Premium Package Plus
1D6 – Trailer Coupling without Removable Ball Joint
2JC – Stainless Steel Skid Plate in Front
3FU – Panorama Roof System
0AW – PDCC
1Y1 – PTV Plus
CK0 – 21" Cayenne SportEdition Wheel with Wheel Arch Extension
Q1J – Adaptive Sports Seats with Comfort Memory Package
QH1 – Voice Control

I'm interested in any/all thoughts and critique you have, but do have some specific questions:

1. Int/Ext color/wood combo - I think the silver ext with umber/light tartufo int will look really nice, but am not sure if the anthracite wood will work with that combo?

I'm going for kind of a refined/"modern elegant" esthetic, but still want some sportiness to it. I would be very confident with anthracite and a solid black or cream interior, but am not sure if the browns in umber/tarfufo will clash with it. Thoughts?

I would probably just go with aluminum as an alternative as I don't like the other wood options (too "old" feeling for me in my early 30's) and carbon (a little too sporty).

2. Any thoughts/concerns on esthetic/design with silver ext and the stainless steel front skid plate? I think it will likely look nice but have a slight concern that it might be "silver overload".

3. LCA - I always position my exterior mirrors to show me the blind spots. With that said I really want LCA as a backup and for my fiance/wife who will be primary driver of this vehicle. My concern is LCA affecting radar detector performance.

I have traditionally been a V1 guy, but would consider a K40 for the CTT. I think they will program it to ignore the LCA frequencies, and I have been reading that most shops won't install an Escort 9500ci if you have these options on a Cayenne.

I am interested in hearing first hand accounts of issues people have had with these options, workarounds/remedies, and which detectors you use.

4. ACC - I wouldn't get this if it weren't essentially free in the prem+ package. Do all of you really use this feature? My concern here is same as LCA with affecting laser detection so if people have issues I will likely drop it along with 4-zone AC, which is nice but definitely don't feel it is necessary, to save some $$$.

5. Roof rails - I don't ever see myself using them but the mere fact that I can't add them later gets me nervous. Thoughts on them detracting from the design esthetic (or adding to it)?

6. Rear airbags - I will likely have a child while owning this car so assume I do NOT want to get rear airbags?? Or am I totally off-base on that? (I clearly don't have a lot of experience with kids!!)

7. Adaptive seats - I really want these as I am used to this type of seat (currently drive an E90 M3), but wonder if I should have any concerns with using child seats in the rear given they are "buckets" in the back. Will the bottom bolsters get ruined by a child seat?

8. Trailer hitch - Kind of like the roof rails, I am on the fence about adding this. I likely won't ever use this but assume it is a much cleaner install to add from the factory rather than aftermarket (thats how it has been on previous SUVs I have owned), so figure it might be better to just add now.

9. Any thoughts on buying scheduled maintenance and/or extended warranties? I like the certainty of prepaid maintenance (I'm coming from BMW world where this is included). That said, we typically only put 7,500 miles/year on our car so the maintenance might be a waste of money in the end.

10. What am I missing? I'm trying to not even entertain the possibility of the Burm given the cost.

Sorry for the long post/questions but really appreciate your feedback and advice!

Thanks in advance!

Hi:
Congrats on the CTT 12' order.

1. I am picking up my 12' CTT this saturday so will update on LCA interference after i try it out. I currently have the V1
2.you are correct on rear airbags, I spoke to quite a few sales rep from different Car manufactures and they all say majority of their customers do not order the airbags for child safety concerns.
3. is there a reason you opt out for rear skid plate? I've heard most people order it with the front
4. Since you are ordering PDCC and PTV a la carte (avoiding the sport package like i did), perhaps look at a MF steering wheel that will match your interior?
5. 18 way sports seat is standard for CTT, I originally downgraded to a 14 but my rep talked me out of it. There are concerns of the durability of the bolsters on this forum, i am not sure if porsche has a fix for this yet. another suggestion is to try out the backseat at a dealership first as I believe the center seat in the back will be somewhat uncomfortable due to the bolsters from the seats next to it.
6. I'd recommend try out the Burn before you opt it out. Yes it is expensive and some people do not care about the satellite radio. one perk i found useful for XM is if you live in metro area real time traffic will show up on you navi and automatically re-route you.

hope this helps. good luck!

1. I think the anthracite birch may look odd and would personally go with aluminum instead...but I've never seen it together so I dont really know and this is just a personal preference.

5. Roof Rails - another personal choice. I happen to like the roof rails but others swear against them. If you might use them for skis, bikes, etc., then it is a one shot deal.

6. Rear Airbags - I believe these are standard now and not an option. I also think you are confusing the purpose. These are rear SIDE airbags. They protect rear passengers from side impact collisions and shouldn't really create an issue for children. In fact, they are standard on most cars these days. These are not airbags like you have in the front seat which DO create a hazard for young children.

8. Trailer Hitch - you can add this after the fact. It will cost more then though. It's a cheap enough option you may as well add it in.

1. Thanks, I would appreciate that.

2. That's what I thought but glad to have some external validation. I tried researching on the government and IIHS websites but surprisingly haven't found a lot of info on this.

3. I'm torn on whether to get front and rear or just front. I will admit to buying mostly for esthetic reasons and haven't seen them in person so hard to judge. The front looks great in al the photos I have seen so am pretty confident on that.

5. Thanks for the info. I will search to read about the bolster issues people have had.

6. Ok, twist my arm, I will check out the burm. ha ha. XM comes standard with CTT right? I definitely want it but didn't see it on the option list for the CTT, just on the base and S models.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree on the wood and am leaning towards just aluminum on the trim. Will likely go with roof rails and trailer hitch. You never know when they might be useful.

i agree with the comment about aluminum. I think anthracite birch might look a bit weird with U/LT, it'll give a very dark feeling overall i think. My personal choice would be olive or carbon with U/LT, but aluminum will help brighten it up too I think

Also, yeah, since you're ordering PTV+ and PDCC separately, and thinking of going aluminum, I'd just get the sport package (better looking steering wheel and save some extra money). This assumes you're ok with losing the multifunction options.

I'd go front and rear on the skid plates. They do look awesome in the photos, here's a video of how they look in real life: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDS6C...eature=related

I'd bring a CD with you to test the Burm btw, radio definitely not a good test of it's abilities...

best of luck!

LCA will effect your radar detector. Even if you turn off LCA. Same thing for the assisted cruise control.

What color interior is that in the video you linked to? It looks nice.

I want to go with sport package as I like that steering wheel with the paddles a lot better (plus the $ saved), but afraid the better half will want the multifunction buttons on the steering wheel. Maybe I will just buy her a new Prada bag with the money saved and that will appease her. ha ha.

Skids plates do look nice, I think I'm locked on front/rear for those.

Thanks for the feedback.

I will check out espresso. My wife has used her veto on black interior as it feels too dark inside with it. So I'm trying to find something that won't feel too dark but will also hide dirt/stains well (anticipate having a kid while I own this vehicle), and will complement the silver exterior nicely.

I think the espresso would be nice and complement the silver exterior! Great build BTW!

PS someone just posted their new S with the espesso interior in the "Post 2011 pics" thread!

Pretty sure it's umber. You can see more umber pics in this thread: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...r-lt-pics.html

Espresso/Cognac is a nice combo, and good compromise between being bright/airy, while being maintainable. You may still have some rubbing issues with seat bolsters, so may want to occasionally clean the leather still, but any smudges will be a lot less noticeable than on a lighter color like Cream. I'm in your same dilemma, and leaning towards E/C...

That would be very interesting... any real life pics of the yachting mahogany?

Anthracite will work and look nice! I have it with my cream and it's wonderful! classy and sporty, not as bland as aluminum and not as old as bamboo or something...

NOT overkill, check my pictures of my roof rails and front and rear skid in alum. sporty! lovely!

3. LCA - I always position my exterior mirrors to show me the blind spots. With that said I really want LCA as a backup and for my fiance/wife who will be primary driver of this vehicle. My concern is LCA affecting radar detector performance.

Does affect it. You can get the update online or call V1. With this update you will NOT get the false.... heard it works perfectly. I haven't updated, but don't mind a FEW falses.....

My concern here is same as LCA with affecting laser detection so if people have issues I will likely drop it along with 4-zone AC, which is nice but definitely don't feel it is necessary, to save some $$$.

I use it DAILY. through town the auto start stop speed and distance is great. USE IT EVERYTIME on the highway, when I don't want to DRIVE the way i DRIVE.

5. Roof rails - I don't ever see myself using them but the mere fact that I can't add them later gets me nervous. Thoughts on them detracting from the design esthetic (or adding to it)?

ADDS TO IT. again check previous pictures I have posted of mine...

6. Rear airbags - I will likely have a child while owning this car so assume I do NOT want to get rear airbags?? Or am I totally off-base on that? (I clearly don't have a lot of experience with kids!!)

Rear airbags are standard now, as compared to pre early 2011 models. I opted to NOT have them, but when the car went into production it was after the change date and they were included as standard!

7. Adaptive seats - I really want these as I am used to this type of seat (currently drive an E90 M3), but wonder if I should have any concerns with using child seats in the rear given they are "buckets" in the back. Will the bottom bolsters get ruined by a child seat?

I opted for the 14 way seats in my CTT. When the CTT came in they MISTAKENLY added the 18 way seats! I was like holy cow WTF, but honestly best mistake possible. I love them. Have two rear kids seats that fit perfectly fine with the bolsters and when removed any indentations go away within a few hours and heat.....
GET THE 18 ways.

8. Trailer hitch - Kind of like the roof rails, I am on the fence about adding this. I likely won't ever use this but assume it is a much cleaner install to add from the factory rather than aftermarket (thats how it has been on previous SUVs I have owned), so figure it might be better to just add now.

GOT IT MYSELF, just get it.

HAVENT purchased.... not sure I will. we will see.

10. What am I missing? I'm trying to not even entertain the possibility of the Burm given the cost.

GET CERAMICS AND BURM. love both!

Sorry for the long post/questions but really appreciate your feedback and advice!

Thanks in advance!
