Questions on Drop-in K&N & Front Window Tinting

Anybody uses the drop-in K&N on your Cayenne? What is your thoughts on that?
Also I am looking to get my Cayenne tint the front windows also, any suggestions on the % to match the rear?

I have one in mine, im sure its doing something but nothing noticeable. As for the tint, any shop should have a meter and be able to measure the tint level and then match it.

One note on the tinting...not sure exactly what the law in CA is, but on my last car I did exactly what you want to do now - I matched my front windows to the rear.

The police didn't like it much however and stopped me and threatened to take the car away on the back of a truck, fine me, and put penalty points on my licence. In the end they settled for peeling the front tint off at the side of the road, still fined me, but gave me no points.

Hope things are easier to get away with where you are.....but just sayin'

My front windows are tint 30%. Almost match the rear.
Im using the BMC filters, almost the same as K&N filters, the only difference is BMC made in Europe, K&N is made in USA.
I didn't notice any performance difference. Maybe the oem filter were still new.

I try 20% in the front, a bit too dark, end up with 30%. Is not that easy to match the rear. (thermal insulated privacy glass)

Neunelf911,
I believe the law in CA is.. The front passenger's face must be see clearly through the window, not sure the definition of it.. or no tint at all? And I didnt know they can tow away your car for tinted window.. That's BS.... The past 4 cars I had were all tinted all around and I plan to keep that way...

So from my understanding, both K&N & BMC drop-in are "oiled" filter right? Has anyone tried other brand "dry" air filter? I had K&N in all my previous vehicles, no problem at all. I just want that extra "vroooom" sound from the engine....Will the dry filter have the same effect?

Since I am from Southern California, anyone knows any local tint shop will match the rear window?

Thanks~

CA tint law is 70% front windows, so as stated the factory tint is already 20-25% so under the law you can only do 5-10% depending on the factory number.

Now if you don't care and decide to chance it, and based on what I see, almost everyone does. A tint ticket is a fix it ticket in California, meaning all you have to do is remove it and have an officer or some other law official sign off on the ticket.

Again this being California, I wouldn't doubt if you haven't had the police be aggressive and take a small little fix it ticket to the extreme.

Once had a LAPD pull me over guns drawn for making a legal turn because they said I saw them down the street and made that turn. After they realized I was just going to lunch, they let me and my passenger go.

I have 5%(the darkest tint available) on my front windows on a few of the toys. I rarely ever get pulled over in CA. It's a "Fix-It" ticket and if you know anyone in Law Enforcement, they can sign the ticket off for you without you having to take it off.

If you dont want to fix-it, or have anyone to sign it off for you, just pay the $100 fine.

Yes, you have options if you get ticketed:
1. Take it off and have it signed off
2. Know someone that can sign it off sight unseen
3. Pay the "look the other way" fine for like $100 1st violation, $150 2nd..... and you can keep it on

VinceV - Did the cops actually pull you over in your Cayenne? That's ridiculous given it was a legal turn and in broad daylight. These are the same trigger-happy cops that's going to be on the news like Fullerton PD.

No this was years ago, in my Dodge Ram. It was reverse profiling, white people in South Central.

Cops said they knew we were there for drugs and hookers at noon on a Tuesday. When all we were there for was some Sizzler!!!

Premier Films is a board sponsor here and very well regarded for tint and clear bra products. We're lucky now because they now have a second location here in Orange. When I did the clear bra on my 2008 997s they were still located in N. CA and I didn't want to wait for one of their scheduled tours and used another shop for my clear bra. The other shop was good, but honestly, having seen Premier's work first hand... Premier is the best.

I don't know anyone with a Cayenne who has used them but I know a lot of Ferrari, Lambo, Aston Martin and 911 owners who swear by them. They aren't the cheapest but they are the best.
