Flappy Paddle vs. Mulit-function with sliders
My 2012 Cayenne S Hybrid was one of the first hybrid models with the much requested flappy paddle steering wheel option.
Pros: Almost instant downshifting. You can shift from 8 to 3 in less than a second!
Cons: No multi-function controls. Somtimes you bump into the paddles while turning the wheel.
Well - guess you cant have everything. What's your experience with shifting with paddles?

On the whole - yes. It depends on the gap of gears you shift. For example 8 to 6 matches instantly. 8 to 3 within a second - does the best it can-revs will jump. I still find it an amazing experience. Perfect for downshifting before a fast corner.
There are times when it refuses to shift however. 3 pulls and it does not downshift or delays the shift until the computer gets what it needs to allow it. Does not happen often but is peculiar.

Kickdown is nice but does not let you select the appropriate gear you want when you want it. The computer decides and usually picks based on how aggressive you kick down.
Here is a situation: Car is driving along in 6 and you approach a corner you want to take fast. You are already decelerating for the approach. You want to accelerate in 3 right after the apex while in still in the corner for a fast exit. You need to pick the exact gear and spin up the revs right before apex. Kickdown just does not work in this situation as it is always accompanied by gas/acceleration.
Techniques taught in Autocross or Track Events. Lots of fun.
