Can the receiver be installed by the dealer to have the XM radio working like factory?

I have the SAT button... But didn't order SAT radio from the factory.

I want Satellite radio.. haha

Thanks!

I don't think so. I tried to do just that when my first order (made in early April) showed up for delivery in July without the XM radio I had ordered. There was no way to add it in so I had to reorder for a nov delivery.

For me, the sat radio is only so-so. The reason to want it is the NavTraffic.

Oh man, It seems like it would be a simple job to add the reciever, no? Or is there a bigger picture I am not seeing?

I suspect it is integrated into the whole PCM. You might be able to swap out the entire PCM unit for me with sat radio. They said no dice to me but that doesn't mean a different dealer won't do it for you. Might be expensive though.

Why isn't it standard on at least the PCM 3.0 and with Burmester??? It seems ludacrious that while this option is available at reasonable or no cost on so many other cars and in our P-cars its a $600-700 option. It should be standard so that anyone can pay for the service in this day and age.

my guess would be that there's a hardware cost associated with being able to receive sat signals, and the other entity willing to subsidize the hardware would be the companies that deliver the service (XMRadio and traffic updates etc.) and they definitely don't have the money to do that nor would it financially make sense for them to do it.

+ Porsche just jacks up prices, we all know that. it's not going to the cost the same to get sat radio in a honda as it is in a porsche.

Cayenne 958, Installing Satellite Radio

I bought a 2012 Cayenne Turbo that didn't come equipped with Sat Radio. I went to the dealer to switch the PCM with a SAT radio capable PCM (that's a $3k job). Dealer was about to do it and then realized he needs enabling codes from PAG (Porsche in Germany). They sent him a one sentence answer: Not possible, no quote available. That was it. No explanation why it wasn't possible. Nothing. I feel like asking another dealer to do it, after the fact. Install the new PCM then call Germany and ask for enabling codes. They can't back track at that point. They just don't want to do it for some reason and they refuse to explain why. I'm interested if anyone has any thoughts.

thanks
M

You can subscribe to SiriusXM Internet account or if you have another car with SiriusXM, add it for about $4/month. Then get all of the same channels on an iPhone or Android app. Connect to PCM through BT or wired connection and you have XM.

Of course, I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan from AT&T, so I don't have to worry about exceeding a monthly data limit.

Yeah but that sort of work-around should be unnecessary. We should have the option of upgrading the PCM with an XM ready PCM. Porsche won't allow it for some "unexplained" reason.

That's why Porsche is the most profitable automotive brand in the world.

I use the Sky dock. They fit nice in the center cig plug and plug into the audio port in the center compartment. I ran the antenna wire down the A pillar. Very easy to hide all the antenna wire and a good way to hold the iphone in the car and see the screen. Takes maybe 20 minutes to install. You can get them used on Amazon also. It does require a satellite subscription. I know some use the network XMSirius on the iPhone but when you are driving in the back country and no good cell towers you are SOL.
