V6 or V8?? Help!
Picked up my new 991 last weekend, and thought about getting a 958 for the 'daily' driver (would be nice to have a Porsche garage). I have read this thread regarding 6 vs. 8 and need help.
Single, no kids/wife, so that issue is out of equation. My dliemma is should I get a V6 with Turbo II wheels (which really makes it look like V8) for about $70, or spend the extra $15K for the V8? Not wild about the V6 being a VW engine.
HOWEVER, I already have my 991 for the 'sports car', so do I really need another V8? Is the V6 'too slow'? (My local dealer will not have one for 3 weeks to drive).
Owners of both please pipe in here on your opinion.

Well, I test drove both and ending up getting the CS. With a vehicle that heavy 4500lbs +, the V8 is more than accomodating. The V6 accelerates fairly quick IMHO from the start, but I notice it sputtered a bit on the freeway when I was trying to do some high speed passes. My opinion, get the CS if the 15K isn't that too big of deal to you and if getting slighly less gas mileage isn't too big of a deal.

I had both Cayennes, The V6 is "adequate" but the S has a more Porsche like feeling, accelerates better, sounds better, feels better. It's the perfect DD to match your 991.
OTOH, I would get the V6 for the wife.

I can't compare the S to the V6 but I will tell you that I have had a lot of nice cars in my life; BMWs, Maserati's, Jags. And in none of them did the pieces work together as smoothly as in the S. That V8 and the 8 speed transmission are really a sweet combo for nearly any driving condition. If you are like me and then choose the practical/conservative route: you will wish you had the bigger engine every time you drive the thing. On the other hand, I hear the 6 is a fine engine and gets the job done - all about priorities.

I have yet to hear anyone regret getting a car with 'too much power'. If money isn't a concern then V8 all the way.
ThIs is coming from a 'satisfied' 958 V6 driver. It's get plenty of acceleration and sails to 80 without a second thought but if I had an extra $12k I would have gotten an S

I have no complains about the V6 being a daily driver, it has enough power for daily use and considering the traffic here, its sufficient enough, fuel economy isn't too bad for a car this size. the V8 is certainly a class above with the engine.

if you have it like that and they give you a great deal on the V8 then go for it, especially with the SUV, you never know what you may need to tow or carry, V8 is always better....

If you can split the difference between dealer invoice and MSRP you are fine, which is about where 5K off would land you - a better deal could be done with a lot of work, but not much better.
