Coolant low with weird run up on coolant temp/drop

Had this weird thing happen on a long road trip.

I made it up Gorman pass and the temp just hit 37F, right at the top of the pass my coolant low indicator came on.

Right after the coolant started rising up to max temp from 200 within seconds, would hold for a few seconds then drop back down to 200. Repeated a few times and then stopped after approx 2 miles. Was fine for the remainder of the drive (around 80 miles).

Tried pulling out my iPhone to take a video but couldn't get the last one in time.

Bringing it to the dealer on Monday. Anyone heard/experienced this?

Is your car a v6? Mine did that only it would do it from a cold start. It would act normal once I drove off. I figured there was a bubble in the system. So I " burped" the system by running the car at idle with the coolant refill cap off. That solved the problem. Before doing that I'd have the coolant/temp scare 2-3 times daily. Since my "fix" hasn't happened again and that was 6-7 months ago..

I had the same thing happen on mine - scared me quite a bit...

Solution: Replenish the coolant to max level with tap water, as to my service advisor. Fixed it right away.

mine did this a few times within the first few months after purchasing.
Not recalling what was done, but I took it in, I think they replaced some sensor in the tanks....
it was never a concern of overheating, as it was just a bad sensor, especially since it was jumping around I wasn't too worried.

Mine started to do the same 3 days ago. First time I was cruising in the Freeway (2000 RPM) when sundelly the temperature jumped all the way to the top. A few seconds later it came back. Then, next day as soon as turned on the car it went up straight to the top, dropped to cold a few seconds later.

Clearly not a real temperature issue but a problem with the sensor. I will be driving it to the dealer later this week...

yep i got a v6.

brought my car into the dealer today. they topped off the fluid and repositioned the sensor. said something in the paperwork about it being not fully seated.

i haven't seen this issue since it occurred a few days ago, or on the drive back home from the dealer today.

got my headlight recall done too, and they fixed a vibration in my car that was absolutely driving me crazy. also touched up some trim that was falling off. worthwhile trip to the dealer

My dealer didn't find anything on my car, so he told me that it could be also fixed with the new PCM version.

So far it's OK (24h) but I am not sure if this will fix the problem or not.
