Replacing Shift Knob
#2
I purchased the Exclusive Aluminum shifter from Suncoast for my 13CTT.
My delaer instlled in in like 15 minutes. There is special tool used to remove it to prevent the release button from engaging.
I did not ever consider doing it myself

When you get the Exclusive you wonder why Porsche did not make it standard (do we hear option $$$)
Anyway it is far superior...it's more robust and fits the fist grip...the aluminum base and trim compliment the shift plate...and it's looks so much better.
If you get one feel the difference in weight between the OEM pos and the exclusive.
I opted for it over the OEM carbon shifter, as the CF shifter is just the OEM with a little strip of cf

I pulled mine off and broke it. Then got my Tech to show me how to do it properly.
1) Twist the bottom of the shift **** to unlock it. I used one of those rubber strap wrenches, but my Tech could do it with his hand.
2) Pull the shifter button outward (towards the PCM). Again my Tech could use his fingers, but a thin tool to get behind and pull it forward might be helpful.
3) The **** should then lift free (with the button still pulled out) with no significant resistance. If there is resistance, go back to #1 and try again.
To reinstall it's the opposite (pull the button out, slide the **** on, release the button, and turn the lock at the bottom).
Since you are replacing your shifter anyway, I suggest practicing with it a few times to make sure you got it. Then the worst case is you just take it to the dealer to have them pop the new one on. Even if the button bit breaks like mine did, it's still drivable by pulling up on the white plastic bit that gets exposed when the **** is off (I suggest using the aluminum rod bit to do the actual shifting).

GNAT- that is exactly right.
It takes 5 seconds to swap this thing out. Just a little twist of the silver base lock and it comes out.

Just to be clear, pulling the button out is critical. If you don't the **** will still come off, but the tab on the button that engages the selector will break and the button no longer functions.
