Simple. But first, understand that the chart I uploaded above is for the US-spec V6 diesel. Below is the chart for the US-spec Turbo S. I could find no comparable chart for the Diesel S, but the graphic next to it (from the Porsche UK website) has representative numbers.

So. Note that the Diesel S max torque is available between 2000 and 2750, and that the Turbo S max torque is available between 2250 and 4500 rpm. Short version, Diesel S max torque is available sooner. But the Turbo S max torque lasts longer. That's why the Diesel S will beat the Turbo S off the line. But the Turbo S torque has longer legs, which enables the Turbo S to catch up and eventually pass the Diesel S.

With my Unitronic tune I dynoed at 226HP and 402TQ to all four wheels. They rate the tune as 260HP and 483TQ at the crank so that is about right with a 15% drive train loss. Never heard of BlueSpark but those are some impressive numbers! Have you dynoed it yet?

Nope, closest possibility is a good two hour round trip. But I have a WiFi iOBD2 device coming next week that holds promise for some performance data.

Max torque from the BlueSpark is ~509 ft lbs, but it comes at the expense of some fuel economy. Max hp is 306, same trade-off. For reasons that are clearly over my head, there's not an actual 306/509 setting; you can have one or the other. Of nine settings available, what I've done is select the one that offers the most hp/torque with the most favorable fuel economy. There's one other with a little more torque but a slightly lower hp boost that suggests the same fuel economy. Gonna try that setting once spring arrives.

BlueSpark makes/sells four different boxes; Economy, Tech, Pro, Pro+Boost. I got the latter, which increases both common rail fuel pressure and turbo boost. Only guessing, but perhaps that's why the numbers are a bit higher than the Unitronic.

Nope. Service manager is fully aware of the tuning box. Besides, one of the nine settings is "off", which defaults to the factory 240/406

As for the power, I would recommend a tune like Unitronic. It really wakes up the 3.0 TDI motor.

I see those old diesel vehicles on the road as well and have heard that the run 200-300k miles pretty easily. While I understand that may be true with older diesel vehicles, I wonder if the same will hold true of the newer models since there are so many more electronics involved in today's car.

The more I read about these vehicles, however, the more I am liking the thought of purchasing one.

Don't have your dealer lend you one for 24hours like we did ... you will be ordering -- they are that impressive.
