Fire extinguisher option?

Fire extinguisher option?
Hi everyone, looking for a little bit of help... I am trying to retrofit the Cayenne factory fire extinguisher but none of the dealers seem to offer it. Can someone who ordered it as part of their build take a pic of it? I could also use a part number and dimensions if not too much hassle.
I believe this unit is stored in a pull out drawer underneath the front passenger seat correct? Thanks

I'll try to get some pics when I take the dogs out in a bit, but to your other point it actually replaces the storage pocket on the front of the passenger seat.
If it were me doing a retro fit, I'd look at putting it on the driver side. I can't easily get to it from the driver side which means with no passenger with me I either have to contort myself in a manner that I could snag clothing or get out an run around the vehicle. Stupid design on their part in my opinion.

Thanks gnat! Not sure the drivers side is an option with the battery being under the seat. But then again, the parts diagrams do not really show how this mounts to the seat. Hopefully your pictures will clear this up. By the way, none of the dealers claim to offer a fire extinguisher... so this makes me wonder what owners with that option do then theirs needs replacement. Has anyone actually asked that question that has the option?

Not sure these pics will help much as it looks like I need to pull it off to really get the details I think you are looking for (and the wife would not appreciate that given my track record in pulling parts off this thing so far ), but here they are. The canister measures 10.75x3.75 inches.
I didn't think about the battery being an issue with it's location. That just adds to my irritation about that being a stupid place to put the battery...

Thanks for the pictures... a little different than the Touareg fitment but the extinguisher looks the same. Anyone have a part number for that particular fire extinguisher?

I'm shocked that there is not a Porsche part number on it (or if there is I can't find it). In our 996 even stickers have Porsche part numbers!
Anyway, here are some pics of the important markings. Hopefully they'll help.

What is shocking me more (and something for you 6A7 option owners to be concerned about) is that all of the dealers I have talked with do not offer that fire extinguisher at all. They say you have to buy a third party replacement if you need one! Now the trouble with that is I spent several months trying to find one of those Gloria/Kidde fire extinguishers in the USA. They are not sold here at all and their form factor is unique. They are only offered in Europe and cannot be shipped overseas due to being a hazardous item. Normal auto fire extinguishers do not fit the brackets/drawer.
I would be very curious if someone who recently purchased a Cayenne with 6A7 option asked their selling dealer how to get a replacement extinguisher and what the answer would be.

I hadn't considered/thought about that. I was more thinking about the minor fire my previous car had just had where I was luckily the 3rd of a bottle of water was enough to put it out before any real damage was done.
Have you tried talking to the guys at Suncoast? They seem pretty good at tracking things down and so far have been far more competent than my dealer's parts department.

Yep, even ordered the one they offer just to find out it did not fit my bracket. Turned out they source a third party extinguisher that they say is a close match to the factory one but not exact. They cannot source the factory Porsche one!

Okay, I checked my drawer dimensions and it looks like this is the exact fire extinguisher I need. Can someone who has this option please see if you can get a factory replacement through your dealer?

Okay, I heard back from Porsche Corporate on this and they provided me a part number... but again, none of the local dealers seem able to order it.

Is anyone able to get this item?

If the fire extinguisher is not ordered, you get a small storage compartment in place. Right? The fire extinguisher option is not expensive. But the small compartment will have more use. Do you guys suggest ordering the fire extinguisher?

Until you need a fire extinguisher
I ordered mine because my previous car had a small fire. Had I not been lucky that a tiny bit of water from a water bottle put it out (just steering fluid trapped in a heat shield at the bottom of the exhaust headers), it would have been a total loss by the time help arrived.
That said, if I had known the extinguisher was such a pain to replace I would have bypassed ordering it and found an aftermarket solution.
