stupid question? can someone help? re: door locks
Does anyone know why i cannot MANUALLY lock the doors on my Porsche Cayenne??????
yesterday on my way down the driveway i wanted to make sure that i had locked my cayenne........i didnt.....i opened the door and hit the lock button and nothing????
ive been able to manually lock every single car I have owned? I had to run back in the house and get the keys and hit the lock button on my keys to get it too lock. how annoying? is this a porsche thing? or am i missing something?
The way it is now. If i was away and left my door unlocked and had no keys in the house no one would be able to open the door and lock for me?????lol
any insight , help appreciated

By door I assume you mean the drivers door?
I don't believe it will let you lock it while the drivers door is open. I've locked it with other doors or the tailgate open, but nothing actually happens until everything gets closed.
Our BMW is the same way. I guess they figure if its the drivers door that is open then you might forget the key in the car...

although i get the 'concept'...its silly. If i took my keys with me and left my car at my parents for example and left it unlocked I guess my Porsche would stay unlocked until i get home? doesent make sense. If its a Porsche quirk so be it but i guess i better make damn sure i lock the door if ever leaving somewhere, or at least leave the keys!!!!!!

Huh. Was just out in mine so I have it a try. None of the interior lock buttons (on the doors or on the center console) lock the car if any door is open. From the key I can lock it from the remote if anything but the drivers door is open, but it doesn't actually lock until all doors have been closed.

Most German cars are this way. The idea is that it's almost impossible to lock your keys in the car. You have to have the key with you, and all doors shut before you can lock it from the outside.

I see nothing wrong with the German design.

Had the same problem the other day and glad I found this thread.
Dropped the mrs off at the the front due to rain and parked the car (the car doesn't recognize the key is missing until several minutes pass) and couldn't lock any doors. Had to leave the car unlocked in the mall parking lot so needless to say wasn't happy with the design.
On my other cars if you pull the handle from the outside the car would lock...

I agree. Don't blame Porsche that you took your keys with you on a cross country flight without locking the car where you left it.
