Does your Cayenne S make this whining noise?

I have always noticed a low level high pitch whining noise when idling with my 2013 Cayenne S. The noise does not change with the RPM, in fact, once the engine speeds up, the engine sound actually masks the noise. The dealer says it is normal. I have not driven another S for comparison and from all the Cayenne base V6 loaners I have driven, none made such a noise. Could it be from the fuel pump? Power steering pump? Any ideas?

I can only hear the low level whining from inside the car.

I'm guessing you have turned off all heating/cooling fans and it doesn't change pitch.

Good point. I never thought of it could be an electronic rather than a mechanical noise.

So, is this noise considered normal for Cayenne with V8 engine?

I just test drove someone's 2012 Cayenne S which had the same whining. Our thoughts are the whining is related to the power steering and it is only with the optional servotronic power steering which both our cars have. When the steering wheel is turned back and forth, the tone of the whining does change a bit. I guess this is considering normal then. Funny my Panamera 4 also has servotronic and it does not have the noise, I guess it is unique to the Cayenne.

Mine whines softly, but loud enough to be annoying only in cold weather, below freezing, after driving about 1 mile. It persists for about 20 seconds then stops.

Did you see my post of having a very similar problem with you? 2 scored cylinders, Porsche replaced the motor on my 2012 Turbo.
