Cayenne Turbo 2012 engine knocking sound on cold start ups
Hello everybody.
I have a 2012 Cayenne Turbo with approximately 28k miles on. When I start the engine and engine is cold (sitting overnight in the garage at 60F), there is a knocking sound. This sound disappears when I rev the engine and is back on when idling. After 7-10', the knocking sound is completely gone.
-You can really hear it on 0:51, 1:10, 1:33, 2:14, 3:03, 3:58
I took the car to the dealership and the "master tech" said it's the high pressure pump, and that everything is alright because cars make all kind of noises when the engine is cold. Well, I have pampered this car since day one when I custom ordered it, it doesn't have any kind of abuse or whatsoever. I also cannot remember if that knocking sound suddenly appeared or if it was there all along from day one, since I never paid any attention on it.
Car drives like a dream, performance is fantastic and there are no other issues or fault codes.
Does anyone else have this knocking sound on cold startups? Please share your experience especially people with the V8 models.
Thank you!

Glad I don't sound like that in the morning
I'm no expert, but it sounds like something behind that silver casing isn't getting as much oil as it should be - if any at all. It's as though something is revolving and catching the inside of the housing.
I have a CD so the set up is completely different, but I guess the best way to see if it's 'alright' or not would be to compare it to another Turbo cold start and see if that's the same.
If it's under warranty you may have a case for renewal of whatever is making the racket.

Had that noise when I wanted to renew the extended warranty. It was a faulty oil separator (it's the part with a black cap on the right side when you're facing the engine). It was replaced under warranty but to my surprise the noise continued even after the replacement. I guess it was there all along and I just paid attention to it recently. My 2011 CTT has 65k miles on it.

Updates on the engine noise. I Just came back from Porsche. They found that Cylinders 1 and 2 were unusually - very scored and these 2 cylinders became loose (!!!). They are replacing the whole engine with a brand new from Germany under warranty. What a bummer! That's crazy, car was never abused. I'll try to get pictures from them to post.

Excellent point Well, I do mean that during break in period I did everything by the book, every time I go for a drive before really stepped onto the gas over 3k RPM I make sure my oil temps are where they should be, I always put in Premium Gas. But still, what IF this would happen when I would be out of warranty?!

Try calling your tech at the dealership. I have my techs number and we communicate on most of my mods. I'm sure he will wiling to work with you on this and if he says something about the "break-in" just ask him what exactly is he breaking in.
