Cheap Weekend DIY Mod: Cayenne GT3 Brake Ducts!!
This is surely the one of the cheapest and most effect mod on my CTTS yet - GT3 brake cooling ducts!.
Porsche Part #: 99734148392 , 99734148492
The 911 as Porsche's flagship sportcar has a variety of OEM brake cooling ducts. They help to reduce rotor temperatures to reduce face, increase pad longevity, and mitigate boiling brake fluids by rerouting air under the chassis into the rotor/spindle area. One of more popular options are the brake ducts from the 911 GT3. Other P-cars use this as an upgrade mod as well. They are effective, cheap (under$ 40), OEM, and doesn't hinder ground clearance too much. Sounds like a good combination right?
The problem is that are no variants of the Cayenne that come with brake ducts for serious autocross/track use. I know most people will not push their Cayenne's close enough to need more brake cooling. However, for those of use who do, you do not want brake fade or spongy pedal at the wrong time.
Fitting them will take a little patience too since we have VERY beefier lower control arms and air suspension.
Lucky for us, most people chose to install them with zip ties to make sure they do not unintentionally release. So in theory, we should be able to cut, drill, and zip tie to fitment nirvana.
Here are the steps I did to provide fitment:
We need to cut an approx. 1.75" x 4.5" notch to clear the strut tower lower mount to the LCA.
We need to cut off the tabs that latch on the 911 LCA's since they are too puny for our Cayennes. (Picture shown uncut, just shave down smooth)
After drilling about 3 holes for the zip ties, here is one mounted so you can see the clearance and see how the zip ties are mounted.

If you look closely, you can see my red covered stainless steel brake lines peeking through

Good to see you posting on the boards again. It has a been a while since I have seen you around. Welcome back!

I know the added drag is minimal but unless those are extremely solid would they not tend to flex and rotate and possibly cause the 'zip-strap' to fail eventually? And if you hit a snow pile or something (if you have snow where you are?)
I like the ingenuity from the members on here. It almost gives me the courage to do some of these things.. almost.
I might start small with "speed-holes" in the hood

In terms of zip-ties, I upgraded them to a stronger version of the zip-ties (mil-spec) with metal locking insert.
Cool - get 'er done and post pics.
