Hi TGED,

Admittedly, I've only just now transferred a handful of albums/folders, so will need to check into this further, but I think I observed:

1) When playing MP3 off from the USB drive, I did see album art displayed, but

2) After copying the entire USB contents to the Jukebox drive, I did not see album art displayed.

For reference, my music is organized as follows and this is how I had it on the USB drive, as well:

\Artist\Album\tracks.mp3

And, I do not have album art embedded into my MP3 files, so artwork is stored as:

\Artist\Album\folder.jpg

It could be that the Jukebox function doesn't handle external album art jpg files, but only handles embedded artwork. Of course, this is pure speculation on my part and I will have to do some further experimentation with this.

Regards,

Dan W.

Dan, you need to tag your album art to each song and it will show on the PCM.

Thanks, TGED.

To be clear, when you say "tag your album art to each song" are you referring to an operation that is performed on the PCM in the vehicle or an operation to be done to your music on your computer before transferring it to the Jukebox?

Do the tagging on the computer before loading the songs onto the USB stick.

Ok, was hoping that's what you meant. Unless I'm misunderstanding something though, this results in the artwork being embedded into each MP3 file.

Given the size of storage devices these days, this isn't really a major concern anymore, but is something I'd intentionally avoided doing when I first started into computer based music.

At home, I actually have all of my music archived as lossless FLAC files, then I auto-generate MP3 from that, so it's quite likely that I could also automate the embedding of the artwork.

Thanks again,

Dan

My songs are originally mostly in Apple Lossless format, I converted them into AAC for playback in the car.

Dan, do you have the optional Porsche Car Connect online service?

Yes, we have that on our Cayenne, but I haven't gotten to it yet! :-) too many other fun things to read about first.

If your car has Porsche Car Connect and when you plug in an iPod, BT AUX becomes unavailable on your iPhone, but if you plug in an USB flash drive, BT AUX is available. On my Panamera(no Porsche Car Connect) I leave an iPod always plugged in and sometimes I will use BT AUX to listen to Internet radio using my iPhone. Therefore I am switching to an USB flash drive on the Cayenne.

Thanks for the help, TGED. I just completed uploading 6.5GB of MP3 to the Jukebox and it seems to be working AOK, including album artwork display.

Just play with it for a few days and see if it works ok. I have the occasion of the wrong album art being shown after jumping from song to song. When you press INFO and then click DETAILS you can get a larger display of the album art, and sometimes this and the MEDIA screen may not show the same album art for the same song.
When you do an album search on an attached USB stick, the album art is also displayed along with the album name, but on the Jukebox only album names are displayed in album search.

I was able to finally figure it out, the key for me was that my 16GB USB SanDisk thumbdrive need to be formatted as FAT32, not NTFS. Once I reformatted the thumbdrive, the Cayenne was able to detect the USB drive and play music from it, which then enables the ability to copy the files and folders to the internal Jukebox harddrive.

Hope this helps!

Just checked my thumb drive. It is in fact already formatted as FAT32.

Well, I figured it out...when I wasn't able to access the files, it was because I had dragged a folder (with music files within) onto my jump drive that I was trying to open in the car. On a hunch today I dragged the files themselves onto the jump drive (not in a folder), went back into the car, plugged it in and bingo, it worked!

I made the same mistake by copying whole folders into the USB stick. Now I create folders on the USB stick, and I copy songs directly from my metadata software mp3id into the USB folders and things have been ok so far.
