Racing to Cure Leukemia and Blood Related Cancers

Last season I teamed up with the Leukemia Research Foundation to use my racing activities to help raise awareness and donations to hopefully help find a cure for blood related cancers.

The idea came from my previous race car, which was sponsored by another cancer society during the previous owners ownership. I thought it would be cool to continue the car's helping nature, but wasn't sure if I should contact the same company or maybe support another cause all together. Last September (2011), my mother was diagnosed with leukemia and our lives changed dramatically. As she started treatment, I saw the impact cancer can have on anyone around it, especially children. I knew what I wanted to do to help.

How To Help

Every event that I either race at or volunteer my time to raise donations at will be posted here with a First Giving link for anyone interested in donating. If you can make the event, you can also donate there. This original post is updated according to each event and the posts below will just be event updates, photos, etc. So check back here frequently in my original post for a new upcoming event.

CURRENT EVENT:

The 2012 Mitty Speedfest at Road Atlanta

Fundraising Link: http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraise...torsportsMitty

I won't be racing the Mitty (I don't think) but will be there with a booth in vendor village, please come by and say hello, chat, and pick up a few goodies. If you can, all donations are GREATLY appreciated and go directly to the Leukemia Research Foundation.

The ARRC is just weeks away! I'm taking any donations or donate directly to the Leukemia Research Foundation! Either way!

Businesses looking for a quick and cheap sponsorship deal: $500.00 gets you the WHOLE car for the four day event! A percentage also goes to the LRF, either send that percentage directly to them and write it off or we can handle it.

Message me for more details!

The ARRC is right around the corner! Donate to the LRF or to us directly and we will donate all proceeds to them and offer you space on the car. We want to make this very beneficial to them! If you're a business looking to take part, name a price and you have advertising space on the whole car over the weekend and 50% of that money goes directly to the LRF!

So I haven't updated this but the ARRC was a bittersweet event.

The test day went very well with two strong sessions in the morning then the rain came in the afternoon and since the rest of the weekend was sunshine we didn't bring a set of wets.

As race day came my co-driver qualified the car and started the car. Around 45 minutes into the race he spun off into the gravel trap at the top of the esses (this is Road Atlanta) and the gravel ended up puncturing the radiator and ripping the alternator belt off.

My crew jumped on the car and got it running well enough without much leak for me to go out and do some laps in the race, we tried numerous alternator belts but couldn't find the right one to fit (aftermarket pulley uses a different belt than OEM).

After 30-40 minutes I brought the car in and we had to retire to save the car from any damage.

The plus was we got on track and had a good weekend of promoting the Leukemia Research Foundation and to me it was special because my mother was able to attend. She's now in Atlanta preparing for a bone marrow transplant that will have her there for 4 months. So I'm glad she got to come out and see it.

All donations go to the Leukemia Research Foundation.

Here is a schedule of the events I plan to attend this year at Road Atlanta:

March 16-18 SCCA Road Atlanta
April 27-29 The Mitty Road Atlanta
May 11-12 Drift Atlanta GTA Road Atlanta
May 19-20 SCCA Road Atlanta
July 14-15 SCCA Road Atlanta
October 17-20 Petit Le Mans Road Atlanta
November 2-4 SCCA ARRC Road Atlanta
November 30 NASA 8 Hour Enduro Road Atlanta

As of right now, I'm looking for donations to give to the Leukemia Research Foundation and a sponsor or sponsors to help cover my running costs of races, all goes into the same pool really, as I can't run my charity program without racing.

I will be at the 2012 Mitty at Road Atlanta with a booth in vendor row! Come stop by and say hey and if you can donate all proceeds go directly to the Leukemia Research Foundation!

Can't make it? I've setup a FirstGiving page for the event where you can donate, even if you're coming you can still donate here!

The Mitty was a great success.

We talked to hundreds of people, passed out loads of brochures, collected donations, and just had a great time. I can't wait to do it again, the only change I'll be making is I need a banner and more things to pass out! We ran out! Here are a few pics of our setup:
